Ryan wants open borders. He is not a conservative. He and all of the rest, want more muslims and more mexicans, in this country. If Ryan (or any of them) cared about conservatism or separation of powers he would fight Obama. Instead, they fight a man harder than they fought anyone, in either party, who says he wants to curtail the invasion. That tells me one thing...
I think I agree with you in general. We saw the same phenomenon play out in Canada, as we watched a conservative government lose its edge by constantly trying to square the circle, accommodation to the liberal elites then sudden jerky movements to the right, almost overshooting into rabble rousing territory. They never managed a consistent stand and were swept out of office basically by an overgrown teenager with a mastery of one thing, social media.
Using the term conservative is anyone’s free option, but whether they really are conservative is another question entirely. Ryan says he questions Trump’s credentials and the Trump faction has the same response in return.
I’m not sure if there is much left of a classically conservative political position in most western countries. In this environment it is very difficult to square security concerns with civil liberties without racial or religious profiling. We have not really adapted to the reality that we are in a sort of slow-motion low-intensity global war and that our leftist fellow citizens are essentially a fifth column. We don’t want to stir the pot or rock the boat in most cases. In my own case, I tried to alert my fellow citizens to these dangers and got thrown into a series of lawsuits alleging libel and slander. Our elites just don’t get what they are doing. They can’t help themselves, it’s as though they never heard of the Trojan horse.
Donald Trump is a flawed human being to be certain, but God works in mysterious ways. If our societies are going to pull through this challenge, it will take stronger action than conventional politicians are willing to take. I don’t even know if Donald Trump could stand the heat of what is really needed. And I don’t know if you can get the genie back into the bottle at this stage. However, not trying is not the best option.
