Election 2016: After vowing to kill coal jobs, Hillary Clinton is now trying to recast herself as Sissy Spacek in “Coal Miner’s Daughter.” But coal workers ain’t buying it, and she’s hearing their wrath while campaigning in West Virginia.
At a CNN town-hall-style forum in March, Clinton asserted: “We’re going to put a lot of coal miners and coal companies out of business.”
Coal country hasn’t forgotten the threat from the Democratic front-runner.
A laid-off coal miner earlier this week confronted Clinton over her derogatory statement during a campaign stop in West Virginia, which holds its Democratic primary May 10.
“I just want to know how you can say you’re going to put a lot of coal miners out of jobs, and then come in here and tell us how you’re going to be our friend...
...Trump, now the presumptive GOP nominee, pounced on Clinton’s growing weakness in Appalachia.
“I watched her three or four weeks ago when she was talking about the miners as if they were just numbers and she was talking about how she wants the mines closed and she will never let them work again,” Trump said after winning Indiana.
“Let me tell you: The miners in West Virginia and Pennsylvania, which was so great to me last week, and Ohio and all over, they’re going to start to work again, believe me,” he vowed. “You’re going to be proud again to be miners.”
Ohio and Pennsylvania voted for Barack Obama in both the 2008 and 2012 presidential elections. But if miners there scorn Clinton like they are in West Virginia and Kentucky, Democrats could suffer a reversal of fortune in the region that could be the pivotal factor in this election.

She is trying to say now she is ending coal mining but what she means by “helping coal country” is after she causes them to lose their jobs there is government funded job training and services to help them find a new career. She just doesn’t get it.
Greta was explaining the jobs training part of Hillary’s plan last night...problem is the spokesman for the coal miners said they do not want a hand out they want to mine coal. He went on to say with the reduction in coal generated power that has already taken effect if we have a hot summer there will not be enough power so this is going to backfire big time.

A key to victory for Trump is to separate members of old time industrial unions from the Democratic party. This presents a real opportunity to do just that. Doesn’t have to be limited to UMW - the EPA does it to all sorts of construction trades, steelworkers, etc.
And he can simultaneously attack government unions using the VA scandal. Split the union vote into two warring factions and he has a chance in the Midwest and PA.

Agreed. We can say what we don't like about some of Trump's policies, but Hillary's had it coming a long long time now....

Hillary’s in luck. The press will either cover for her or they’ll ignore the story so it goes away.
They feel very strongly about coal in Pennsylvania. a while back I worked at engineering design there and we put in a coal fired furnace complete w/ scrubbers and all.
They're covering for Trump too, but my sense is that they like Hillary.

Obama said he was going to close the mines; yet they voted for him. That is what I don’t understand. I just don’t understand how u can vote for a person who wants to take away your job.

OK, so the problem with earning a living is that eventually we really need to know what's going on and this is why investors hang around this forum. We all understand that this is a moderated forum and that's good, but does anyone have any idea what the rules are here?
I suppose because they prefer their elected liars and backstabbers in Washington to be Demothugs instead of Republicants?
