Billionaire Donald Trump set about unifying a fractured Republican party Thursday, fortified by the support of a key party leader as he launches into battle for the White House against likely Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.
Late Wednesday the top Republican in the Senate, Mitch McConnell, publicly endorsed Trump's candidacy "to prevent what would be a third term of Barack Obama."
"As the presumptive nominee, he now has the opportunity and the obligation to unite our party around our goals, McConnell said in a statement.
Trump's commanding victory in Indiana's primary Tuesday pushed remaining challengers Ted Cruz and then Ohio Governor Kasich out of the race, leaving the real estate tycoon an uncontested path to the nomination.
Their capitulations brought the curtain down on one of the most contentious and chaotic nomination battles in generations, in which Trump pummelled no fewer than 16 rivals into submission.
"Now we'll unify the party," Trump, 69, told Fox News on Wednesday. "We're going to get people together."...
...."I know people aren't sure right now what a President Trump will be like," he told The NYT.
"But things will be fine. I'm not running for president to make things unstable for the country."

Conservative are supposedly Faith based. If they stay home this election or vote for illary I hope there is a special place in hell for them. Don’t they don’t realize that illary will make America hell on earth for conservatives! Is that what they really want?
LOL!
Another flake poster I never heard of.
No home page, no state, no nuttin : )
I suppose that until such time we ZOT them all, we will have to suffer their rudeness.
If you genuinely have a burning, itching desire to see the Butcheress of Benghazi in the Oval Office for the next four (or eight) years, you need to own that. Openly BE what you truly are -- "out and proud," as your ideological bunkmates always say.
Your vote is your own responsibility. Trying to make it someone else's -- for whatever reason -- just ends up making you look like a mug,.
Who was supposed to have been our conservative prayerful leader? GWB?
Bushes have done more to destroy the Republican Party (and by extension the country) than any other political entity. ‘41 ruined the incredible domestic policy legacy he inherited from Reagan & reneged on his tax pledge, losing his 2nd term.
Then ‘43 destroyed the Republican advantage in foreign affairs the Iraq War. He did nothing to prevent the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression. Instead, he shoveled trillions in public funds at Wall Street.
They both failed to stop illegal immigration, which set the stage for the demographic destruction of the Republican Party and America.
Trump is the last hope, who else wants to really stop our destruction? But it might just be too late because of the tens of millions of mindless straight-ticket Democrat drones have been imported and/or naturalized and will never vote republican.
Thanks be to the George(s).
They’ll all come around, they’re all a little embarrassed for trashing Trump thinking he’d never make it to the second primary and they were so wrong their ego’s are bruised.
Have never listened to Levine in my life...
so,wrong...again.
Keep this tactic up with the non-Trump believers and see what happens..
Ever hear the saying about sugar and vinegar? I suspect not...
No, we always have “none of the above” to fall back on...like many did with McCain and Romney..
And bludgeoning non- Trumpbots to death verbally will get you No Where...
Thnx, BG...
your reminding me at my age that “life is all about choices” sounds like some navel-gazing, NE lib....hardly appropriate for FR...at least, it used to be.
It is time to stop on both sides if you feel that bludgeons you too bad. The crap spewed here since FR is quoted on the Internet a lot and is only helping Hillary. Too bad if it offends you to present facts and not unnecessary trashing.
I know the epic failure of Lying Ted still hurts but go take your meds and lie down for a while.
He’ll still be a LOSER when you return to support Hillary with your troll ranting.
Hey ZOT away, my FRiend...do me a HUGE favor by deciding for me if I should continue to discourse with Cro-Magnon man/woman or not....
You should be very proud of the way you show your support for the First Amendment, you Constitution-lover, you....
I’ll take my meds if you take yours...
And my “troll rantings” are protected by the First Amendment, in case I remember correctly...
Didn’t you learn that in grade school? I thought not...
First amendment doesn’t apply here dumbass. Looks like someone took to many meds the day they taught free speech in your school you sellout troll Hillary supporter.
You’re just here to disrespect the sites owner and won’t last long.

It’s a two way street here. I’m happy to let bygones be bygones. But it’s apparent after Cruz’s farewell poop in the punch bowl “press conference: that he and many his supporters have ZERO interest in unifying the party. They prefer the Butcher of Benghazi to Trump and we will have to respond accordingly.
Exactly. The insufferable arrogance that caused Cruz's ignominious defeat hasn't diminished an iota.
I say let 'em stew.
