I’ve heard that said often enough. I never bought into it.
Reagan did get off the beaten track at times, but his advisors were the problem IMO.
Some of his trade ideas were well meaning in the day, but are seen for what they are/were now.
In his day, they seemed reasoned.
I like Reagan. But whether advisers or other input, whatever he did meant the buck stopped with him. Yes, it’s easy to Monday morning quarterback, but we tend to do that with politicians. It’s part of the game. And it would cause a lot of heartache as candidate Reagan today vs the Reagan we currently revere.
