Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, abruptly suspending his Republican presidential campaign Tuesday night after another crushing primary defeat to Donald Trump, assured emotional supporters in Indiana that they helped grow an extraordinary movement declaring his team left it all on the field in their final push.
ADVERTISEMENT "It appears that path [to victory] has been foreclosed," Cruz told supporters in Indianapolis. "Together, we left it all on the field of Indiana. We gave it everything we've got, but the voters chose another path, and so with a heavy heart but with boundless optimism for the long-term future of our nation, we are suspending our campaign."
The underdog candidate, who all along had vowed to force Trump into a contested convention in July, stunned supporters by dropping out following a big loss in Indiana. Some people in the crowd could be seen crying and hugging each other.
But Cruz indicated he has no plans to fade away.
I am not suspending our fight for liberty, Cruz said.

I agree with you Mouton.
Cruz did the right thing, but he still needs to publicly congratulate Trump. Trump also needs to call Cruz. The two need to work together to get Trump and other Repub’s elected this fall.
Surprised he didn’t say, “we left it all out there on the rink...”
Agreed
Cruz is a young-man version of a curmudgeon, has no friends, is socially awkward, and is highly opinionated - which are all apt descriptions of successful jurists on the Supreme Court.
The Senate Republicans would love to see him leave (GTFOOH), and President Trump could gain brownie points for putting this highly qualified Conservative, constitutional scholar, douche bag on the Supreme Court.
I say it is a win-win-win-win for Cruz, the Senate, the country, and Trump. Time to be pragmatic!
Classy.
Please review my other posts on this thread in response to knee-jerk reactions such as yours. Or don’t.
Did Churchill congratulate hitler about France?
“Why on earth do Trump supporters, when hearing criticisms of Trump, instantly (and as reflexively as dog-drool from a Pavlovian experiment) retort with something like “You’re just upset that your guy lost!”...? Is that really the only possible basis for criticizing Trump? That he’s “not Ted Cruz”? That’s insanity.”
Almost as impulsively stating any disagreement with the “one” is RACIST.
This does not appear it will end as I hoped’ a unified party. This doesn’t clean up Trump will lose. There is no debate to that fact if 30% do not come over.
That comment by DJT did not make the same connection the other poster did and as you are seeming to insinuate by your post.
Cruz’s speech was well written and delivered but intentionally lacking two major components of any gracious concession speech.
Obviously, Ted never played sports. A loser is expected to acknowledge and congratulate the winner. It shows good sportsmanship and a positive approach to life’s trials. Ted has not learned how to be a gracious winner or a gracious loser. Plus, we missed his rallying pitch for unity.
Earlier, Ted had become unhinged over his father and his real life story beginning to unravel. So many unanswered questions with this guy and too many people are researching for the truth.
IMO, Cruz had no plans of exiting until the exposure of his fathers past went viral. In addition to that damage, the shaky Canadian (NBC) timeline was ripe for exploration. All of this untimely news pulled Cruz out of the race. The combination of all that combined with negative polling were too much for any one man to fight.
[Hes needs to be on the Supreme Court.]
If you are referring to the one in Canada, yes I agree!
[Congratulate Trump, why would he? Trump just tried to tie him to the JFK assassination, for cripes sakes.]
Get your head out of your a-s!
First, plenty of other media were running the story as early as April 20th!!
Second, he never blamed him for JFK. He said Cruz Sr. was associating with Oswald before that event. Nothing else.
Another poster raised a question last night that I’d not considered. Why did Cruz leave the US in the first place? What was his means of support?
Also, apparently, a business of his went bankrupt. How did Ted Cruz afford and Ivy/Harvard?
Okay, you have a better perspective than I do. I have not watched them on stage very much. Just brief snapshots, here and there. I was unaware of their behavior.
But still, remember they are kids whose lives have been tuned upside down. They are traveling in and out of multiple time zones, being forced to dress up, surrounded by strangers, and cameras, all negatives.
Few kids have a good stage presence. They should have kept them offstage and pulled them out only for the intros and the finale. That would have been easier on them.
Ted is a classless lying loser. He never even mentioned Trump once.
But this has been the nastiest Republican primary season in my memory (I was just a little kid in '64). And some Trumpsters still refuse to be gracious and let it go. You've won. Don't be "sore winners" like the "gays."
The most distressing thing about this whole season has been what it has revealed about us. We've put social issues, morality, and G-d A-mighty on the back burner in the name of racial/civilizational identity. I wonder sometimes just how many conservatives actually believe in the One True Objective Universal G-d . . . and how many believe in "western civilization" for which "gxd" is a mere metaphor.
G-d help us all.
