"I don't believe the conservative base of this party is ready to throw everything over to Donald Trump. In essence, we're not going to nominate Hillary Clinton with a penis,"
Steve Lonegan, Cruz's New Jersey campaign director, told CNN's Kate Bolduan on "At This Hour." He pointed out that Trump supported Democrat Jimmy Carter over Republican Ronald Reagan in the 1980 election and criticized the 40th president's foreign policy. The statement by Lonegan continues -- more colorfully -- a line of attack by Cruz and his running-mate Carly Fiorina that Trump and Clinton are political twins.

Well, that was only 36 years ago, so no doubt it has profound relevance today...
Vote Trump

Apparently, Lyin' Ted isn't the only one lying comes naturally to.
'Donald Trump was on the Reagan Finance Committee in 1979-80 when most of the New York financial elite were for George Bush or John Connally,' the former campaign aide told Daily Mail Online, on condition of anonymity.
Trump and his father Fred were in the room when Reagan announced his candidacy in New York City in 1980, he explained, adding that without Trump the 40th president might have been dead in the water.

TED CRUZ VOTED FOR THIS H.R.1314 - Bipartisan Budget Act of 2015 -- OBAMA signed it. Cruz (R-TX), Yea Rand Paul voted against it. Sessions (R-AL), also voted Nay http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?&congress=114&session=1&vote=00193

You need to post whenever the Scruzettes whine about how good Scruz will be for the average American man and woman
Steve Lonegan is not Ted Cruz, so I don’t particularly care what he says. With 50 (or is it 57?) state directors, there will always be someone on the Cruz staff (and on the Trump staff) saying something stupid. I’m not going to take offense at every single one of them. I also don’t want Cruz (or Trump) to go off message to respond to every flaw in every comment from millions of supporters - I want them to beat Hillary, not play for a perfect political correctness score.
Trump supporting Democrat Jimmy Carter was a very long time ago. No sensible person would hold how Trump voted 32 years ago against him today.
How about we respond sensibly on both sides?
You too, please!
A "state campaign director" is not just "some staffer".

So, the Cruz N.J. state campaign director goes on CNN, tells a flat out lie, and we're supposed to ignore it in the interests of kumbaya?
Hell NO!
True, Trump is a native New York liberal, Hillary’s just a carpetbagger.
It sure looks like the Cruz campaign is in full-scale meltdown. We have Glenn Beck announcing that he’s suicidal if Indiana goes for Trump, Cruz launching a 7 or 8 minute lecture to a Trump supporters (probably hoping that the guy would take a swing at him), and then the Cruz diatribe this morning. These are not the signs of a confident and growing campaign, it is the signs of a retreating campaign burning all bridges and tearing up all the roads behind it.
Cruz thought he was the anointed one. he and his father can kma. God used Moses, a man who killed somebody..he can use Trump for good.
he is off the rails completely.. Ted failed to take Trump seriously just like his Bush friends
“This whole idea of comparing Trump to Hillary is just not going to work.”
True. Hillary is honest about being a NY liberal.
Mean? Nah. How about?
Typicalwesttexan?
Yet just a couple MONTHS ago, Cruz was for a 500% increase in H-1B visas.....
NO deportations, even today! Goldman Sachs won’t allow that.
“Wonder what this Scruz/clowns FR sign in name was before Jim zotted him.”
Adonis P. Snodgrass.
Not quite how I see it. I would say CNN interviews dozens of people from the Cruz and Trump teams each week and they choose the worst moments of each to put on TV. Cruz has a larger staff, so they have more opportunities to get dumb statements from his people, and this is one of them.
I do not assume this comment represented what Cruz wanted said. Instead, I assume CNN wants the GOP divided. They will broadcast every "Lying Ted" comment from Trump to anger the Cruz supporters at Trump, and they will broadcast stupid comments like this to anger the Trump supporters at Cruz. It looks like they are succeeding. You may be okay with the success of their biased reporting, but I am not okay with it.
My priority is seeing Hillary lose in November to someone who is anti-Amnesty, anti-Obamacare, and pro-gun. Trump and Cruz both qualify, but I voted for Trump a week ago today. Despite that detail on my part, I want the Cruz supporters to vote Trump in November. That means I do not want to be unnecessarily antagonistic toward them.
Anger at Cruz over the worst statement that CNN could find from one of his 50-plus state directors is silly. That's like anger at Trump over the montage of sound bites criticizing Cruz. I listened to a Trump speech on CSPAN this morning, and it was mostly good substance, which NPR excerpted down to a single policy-free "Lying Cruz" phrase. Don't let mainstream journalists win with their selective editing. They are Hillary shills, and they are succeeding!
It's not a flat out lie made up out of thin air. It's more a rather extreme twist that draws a parallel between the positions Trump took 30 years ago and Hillary's politics today. I'll agree that it's a stretch, but so is drawing a parallel between what Cruz thinks and the worst comment CNN could find from who knows how many hours of interviewing fifty or more people in the Ted Cruz staff.
Please don't allow the mainstream media to do this. Trump (assuming he wins Indiana today) is now unstoppable in the primaries. Sniping back and forth within the republican party can only hurt Trump in the general election. It's time to move on. And, yes, I am intentionally putting the best possible face on a stupid comment, but that is important if we want to win in November. So, do you want to win in November? Which matters more: beating Hillary, or beating on Cruz and his supporters?
If you don't like Cruz, move on. Don't have a beer with Ted Cruz; I probably wouldn't. But don't respond to these trivial stories. It's like the snide comments from the guy who wanted the same girl but lost out to you. You got the girl - ignore that guy. Continuing that fight might cost both of you the girl. Trump got the nomination - ignore Cruz stories. Move on with life, so we can beat Hillary, and so the Cruz voters are open to voting Trump in November. Continuing the Trump-Cruz wars might cost both sides the November election.
