BARBER: QUARTET IN B MINOR, OP. 11, ADAGIOThis is one of the most famous pieces by an American composer. In 1936, Arturo Toscanini orchestrated it, and it became an immediate hit, usually reserved for grave occasions of state. Both The Elephant Man and Platoon used it in their soundtracks.
This is the original version, and it is amazingly intense, worthy of three or four handkerchiefs.
