BARBER: QUARTET IN B MINOR, OP. 11, MOLTO ALLEGRO E APPASSIONATOThis quartet dates from 1935, when Samuel Barber was just starting out. He came from an operatic family and had a fine baritone singing voice.
This is the first movement, which combines a sense of Schubert with Wagner and displays Barbers musical sensibility, which is a bit dissonant at times, but ultimately Romantic. The second subject is gorgeous.
