In a stunning reversal, the U.S. Army decided late Thursday to retain a decorated Green Beret it had planned to kick out after he physically confronted a local Afghan commander accused of raping a boy over the course of many days.
*snip*
"In SFC Martlands case, the Army Board for Correction of Military Records determination modified a portion of one of SFC Martlands evaluation reports and removed him from the QMP list, which will allow him to remain in the Army," said Lt. Col. Jerry Pionk.

Someone made a politically incorrect decision. That’s commendable. Who was it?
>>Army must have caught a sh-tstorm of bad PR and calls.
Besides that, do you suppose someone at a high level woke up and said to himself “Self, this Obama guy and Ashton Carter are only around for another 200 and something days, maybe we better think about this.”
Article, and esp # 23 .
"My name is Legion
for we are many."
This is a sign that obama’s stranglehold is weakening.
Now that’s a hoot!
Bet they’ll make it as difficult as possible for him to advance or get any decent assignments. Better for him to get out asap before they file on him breathing the wrong way.
**** “They should give the man a commission” ****
Why demote him?
(JUST KIDDING!)
**** “ Did he get a reduction in rank?” ****
He is SFC so it is very unlikely unless Congress was involved.

Absolutely fantaStic news- finally a thread witrh good news that isn’t ‘Ted is an #@#hole” “Ted is the debil” “Trump is a maroon” “Trump hates kittens”
As a final ‘take that’ to the leaving president, the military should award this man a medal for possibly saving a child’s life and exposing a pedophile to the world-
Ping
LOL!
The highest this should have ever gone was his C.O. Most of this garbage started with Murtha’s crusades against the military back in the day when sit on their hands Rummy and Gates refused to man up and defend the ones serving under them. I was Navy but I can’t imagine any officer I knew nor any of my CO’s allowing anyone under them to be given such an unjust treatment like this. This is being allowed to undermine morale and unfortunately the damage is already done. Who would want to live under the stress he did? Who wants to be second guessed at every decision in a combat zone?
Creepy, but true.
Kind of hard to preach core values and doing what's right when you punish what should be the poster boys for doing so...
Honor This is the bedrock of our character. It is the quality that empowers Marines to exemplify the ultimate in ethical and moral behavior: to never lie, cheat, or steal; to abide by an uncompromising code of integrity; to respect human dignity; and to have respect and concern for each other. It represents the maturity, dedication, trust, and dependability that commit Marines to act responsibly, be accountable for their actions, fulfill their obligations, and hold others accountable for their actions.
Courage The heart of our Core Values, courage is the mental, moral, and physical strength ingrained in Marines that sees them through the challenges of combat and the mastery of fear, and to do what is right, to adhere to a higher standard of personal conduct, to lead by example, and to make tough decisions under stress and pressure. It is the inner strength that enables a Marine to take that extra step.
Commitment This is the spirit of determination and dedication within members of a force of arms that leads to professionalism and mastery of the art of war. It promotes the highest order of discipline for unit and self and is the ingredient that instills dedication to Corps and country 24 hours a day, pride, concern for others, and an unrelenting determination to achieve a standard of excellence in every endeavor. Commitment is the value that establishes the Marine as the warrior and citizen others strive to emulate.
All this does is give him time to appeal the decision to kick him out of the army.
The people who charged him should be kicked out of the Army, pronto. Child sex molestation is not a US military value.
