The modern idea of “nation building” has fallen under the banner of imperialism, or at least the leftist idea of the word. Imperialism under, say, the Roman empire meant widespread takeover of every aspect of society and forced assimilation. America’s “nation building” efforts over the last 100 years have been no more than propping up failing governments to forward some political agenda. I think that’s what the millenials tire of.
