Republican presidential contender Ted Cruz has tapped former technology executive Carly Fiorina as his running mate in the race for the White House.
The Texas senator plans to formally unveil his pick for vice president Wednesday afternoon in Indianapolis.
That's according to a Republican with direct knowledge of the plan, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized speak before the official announcement.
Cruz is trying to generate momentum for his struggling campaign. GOP front-runner Donald Trump swept primaries in five Northeastern states on Tuesday.
Cruz has been mathematically eliminated from winning enough delegates to clinch the Republican presidential nomination before primary voting ends.
But he's pushing to claim the nomination at a contested national convention in July.
The 61-year-old Fiorina endorsed Cruz earlier in the year after abandoning her own presidential bid. The former chief executive at Hewlett-Packard has never held elected office.

That would make her Mistress #6, wouldn't it...? ;)
That is one unfortunate turn of phrase, right there, considering.
:D
Fiorina cost Californians 10’s of thousands of good paying jobs by sending them to Malaysia and India.
I thought he was smarter than this.
I guess ambition can get people to do all sorts of stupid stuff.
Including aiding and abetting The Cheap Labor Express.
Whoever said Cruz was in his right mind?
If Beck isn’t there to swear he in, does it still count ?
She lost California
I'm not. Aside from the obvious hubris of 'picking a VP' when he's won just a handful of states and not even half the delegates required for the nomination, I think this choice absolutely soils the credentials of what should be a very solid conservative senator. It seems like every step along the way this campaign cycle, Senator Cruz has chosen the worst option to secure his leadership among conservatives.
ICarly is an awful choice for a running mate, one should get the nomination before announcing a running mate, and honestly, aside from the fact he paid her campaign half a million dollars and she is (for now) a female, there's nothing she brings to the campaign.
Who knows, maybe all these reports are utterly false and it'll be yet another radio personality endorsing and campaigning for Senator Cruz on the trail.
I thought it was great when Cruz announced his run for POTUS last year. I was on board as soon as I heard about it.
As I have Posted before, I have some friends in Texas that have known the Cruz Family since his days as Solicitor General there. They told me years ago about Cruz and they said he was the real deal.
I live in CA and I really have no idea about TX Politics, but that was the reason I supported Ted when he announced. He is the only Candidate I have given Donations to this Election Season.
That being said, I am now leaning Trump. It started when I realized that Cruz simply couldn’t get the numbers, and now I have had the realization that maybe Cruz should have waited until he had some years under his belt serving as a Senator before trying to run for POTUS.
Now I am simply watching a spectacle taking place amd I am very disappointed watching the implosion. This Carly thing if true is another blunder of epic proportions.
I still feel that Cruz is the smartest guy in the room no matter what room he walks into, but it isn’t enough to get him to the Promised Land. Such is Politics.
I am reminded of something my Dear Late Mother used to say, “some people are so smart, they’re stupid”. Based on the state of Cruz’s Campaign, I now understand what my Mother meant.
Ted has lost this campaign.
This latest move proves that he has lost his mind too
Question is, why would Carly agree to do this? Looks like the whole GOP is being exposed for what we all knew they were. It’s sad to see that Ted Cruz has been in with them all along.
True enough. For someone that everyone believed was such a brilliant, even a genius legal mind, the first sign was that he “didn’t know” he was a Canadian citizen when he was running for his Senate seat in 2012.
“Oops, I knew I was Canadian, just *forgot* to mention it, sorry.”
Ted’s a mess!
If true, I agree it's a huge mistake and it will tarnish all involved.
Well, if true look at the bright side, at least he didn’t tap Dennis Hassert as his running mate.
Just a little joke. No offense to hard core Cruz or Hassert fans.
Ping.
Ted’s got other things to his credit. Or discredit, should I say.
I guess we’ll see how California goes.

I am sincerely hopeful that it is not correct. Though more and more outlets are now running with the story.
Shoot, for half a million, he could have purchased Nancy Pelosi; least she would have brought something to his campaign, and certainly couldn't have damaged it any more.
