CHICAGO A federal judge on Wednesday sentenced former House speaker J. Dennis Hastert to 15 months in federal prison a term above what even prosecutors had recommended and one that clearly takes into account the sexual abuse allegations that generated the criminal case against the Illinois Republican.
The sentencing marked an ignominious moment in the life of a man who was once a revered high school teacher and wrestling coach in Illinois and who ascended into the highest ranks of American politics. Even before the hearing, prosecutors had revealed in court filings how Hastert allegedly had molested or inappropriately touched five teenagers affiliated with the wrestling team he coached decades ago. U.S. District Judge Thomas Durkin had indicated that he would consider that in handing down an appropriate punishment.
Hastert, reading from a prepared statement, told the judge that he was deeply ashamed to be in court. He acknowledged that he mistreated some of the athletes I coached.

2 heartbeats from the presidency
He was actually sentenced for financial crimes related to the hush money. Sadly the statute of limitations for the buggering of high school kids has expired.
The first headlines had it on a supervised home basis. What happened?
Again, the only crime he’s been prosecuted for is withdrawing money in amounts under 10k at a time... The abuse has never been charged or convicted of... NOt excusing him, but basically they are using this law to seek punishment for other things they cannot prosecute, which to me comes across as a perversion of the system.
Who knows how often the Dems used this to blackmail him over the years? Of course, if he’d only switched parties, he’d be considered a hero like Gerry Studds.
Let’s hope for Prison justice before God has His way.
Reluctantly agree with you.
And homosexual hero Larry Brinkin only got 6 months for dealing in the most horrendous child porn imaginable for many years.
Not dismissing Hastert, but pointing out the hypocrisy in the “special” treatment given the sodomites.
I don’t think those were the charges. He structured his withdrawls under $10k to get around federal reporting requirements and then conspired to conceal the “crime”.
The Real Hastert Rule: If you’re gonna screw ‘em, screw ‘em on the sly.
Another question, did the recipients of the payments report them on their income tax forms?
This guy was picked by the GOPe probably because he was subject to blackmail that they could use to control him. The voters had little to say about this guy outside his district, yet we are the dummies.
I fully agree. If we are to be a nation of laws, sentencing must be only for crimes charged and convicted. Now, if we could only get some of the dirty Dems before the bench.
It was HIS money. These charges and punishment are NON-American and WRONG.
So? We have a perv in the WH right now.
2 if you include the Beard.
But one example that helps explain why Republicans are so damned willing to go along with every item in the Democrat/socialist/progressive agenda; “You wouldn’t want that little matter with (fill in the blank) to make it into the press, now would you...?”
I wonder if the same people who have an issue with transgenders using the wrong restroom would have an issue if they saw this sick f—k using a urinal next to their son.
