Republican U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey says he cast his presidential vote for Ted Cruz, describing the Texas senator as having a deep understanding of the issues and "concrete" ideas on the economy and national security.
"He's a solid conservative," Toomey said this morning outside his polling place in Zionsville. "We don't agree on everything, but having served with him in the Senate, I know Ted pretty well and I think he's got a real, real viable shot of beating Hillary Clinton in the fall."
While Donald Trump leads among Republicans in public polls of state voters, Toomey noted that the nomination process "doesn't end in Pennsylvania."
Toomey had endorsed Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, who ended his presidential bid in March.
The Lehigh Valley legislator said he "got out of the endorsement business" after that, noting that his own re-election race will be his main focus.
As for his own electoral odds, Toomey - who will be watching returns come in at an event in Pittsburgh - was focused on today's balloting.
"I think my chances of winning today are pretty good," Toomey quipped, referring to his unchallenged status on the primary ballot.
Four Democrats are vying for a shot at unseating Toomey: retired admiral Joe Sestak, former environmental adviser Katie McGinty, Braddock Mayor John Fetterman, and western Pennsylvania small businessman Joe Vodvarka.
Toomey described Sestak and McGinty, the front-runners in that contest, as "very liberal candidates, way outside the mainstream of Pennsylania voters," adding that he feels confident about his shot at gaining a second term.
"I think Ive been able to be very productive in the Senate reaching across the aisle and getting things done for Pennsylvania," Toomey said. "I think my focus on economic growth and security are exactly what voters tell me is important to them."

“No, Trigonometry.”
Oh, OK. So what you’re really saying is that you weren’t smart enough to come up with that on your own - right?
Toomey will lose the general unless nominee Trump comes to his aid ..I predict if Trump is the nominee, he will be called in to save the Senate while simultaneously defeating Hellary , and he will succeed ... just a prediction
I agree.

Toomey will be better than the DIM and can be reeled back in.. we need to keep control of the Senate and Toomey is key to that... he will have no say in pushing anything anti-Second Amendment ...
True. With trump in charge, to met may be on a short leash.
“Bitch-slapped?”
Is that the latest cool phrase at your local Burger King?
Penn is tough territory for Repubs as of late ...i’m no fan of Toomey, but he is trying to survive and we need him ..not sure why he went Left on the gun issue , stupid move ..he is merely a cog in the wheel to keep the Senate
“The Lehigh Valley legislator said he “got out of the endorsement business”
—then shut the hell up, Patsy.
I don't know much about Toomey but I vote for any repub over any democommie. The democommie will vote for gun control, confiscation, 2A repeal in addition to every other left wing commie agenda item. Not to mention that you give another senate seat to the commies.
Here in SC we have that POS Graham but as bad as he is he's still better than a democommie.
One more point: "The beauty of the Second Amendment is that you won't need it until they try to take it away."---Thomas Jefferson
Molon labe
Well Toomey just got a hail mary. The Democrats picked the weakest candidate running. They dumped Sesak who I think could have beat Toomey. They picked a woman who got into some problems that resulted in an investigation.....not sure resolution but Toomey should keep his seat now.
Interesting ...Sestak would have easily beat Toomey .. looks like the DIMs might have messed this one up
We don’t have any non-insider in this race.
Trump was late for his victory speech because he was at a Time Magazine awards deal where liberals give each other awards for being so cool and smart.
Heck, Trump gave $25,0000 to Terry ‘Let Criminals Vote’ McAuliffe” in Virginia.
They are all frauds.
Political guests at the TIME 100 gala last night included Donald and Melania Trump, Jill Biden, Reince Priebus, Rand Paul, Samantha Power, Ehud Barak, David Koch, Christiana Figueres and Gabrielle Giffords. Toasts by Lewis Hamilton, Caitlyn Jenner, Melissa McCarthy, Denis Mukwege and Darren Walker.
SPOTTED: Scott Kelly, Padma Lakshmi, Alexander Wang, Matt Lauer, Trevor Noah, Marina Abramović, Lindsey Vonn, Mark Kelly, Ben Falcone, Martha Stewart, Gayle King, Jenna Lyons, Wendi Murdoch, Mia Farrow, Charlie Rose, Perry Chen, Jenji Kohan, Matthew Weiner, Diane Paulus, Jason Robert Brown, John Green, Preet Bharara, Arianna Huffington, Pete Cashmore, David Chang, Marie Kondo, Danny Meyer, Sister Rosemary Nyirumbe, Obiageli Ezekwesili.
Trump is not a sitting senator. He is running for elective office for the first time. He is funding his own campaign. I would say he is an outsider.
yep
Rush completely ignored Jeff Sessions’ endorsement of Trump, but will most assuredly sing the Toomey endorsement of Cruz from the roof tops.
Prepare yourselves for Rush to be spewing bull sh*t all over the place on today’s program.
Can’t stand there was absolutely no option to primary his arse out of office..
And if he likes and eats Brussels sprouts, which I detest, then I’ll have to vote against him. Who is your pure candidate? Trump has donated to Democrats and to Hillary and Bill, thus he is obviously in their circle of control.
Snakes of a slither, slither together.
