My parents taught us to be very proper, also. No elbows on the table. Napkin on your lap. Passing not grabbing. It was the way things were done back then. And we were the average family around town.
Those were the days. I frequently see what I call the trifecta of bad table manners: Bringing out the cellphone at the table, talking into cell phone with food in mouth, and wearing hat while eating (hat is usually a one size fits all worn backwards). If it were legal, these slobs would also smoke cigarettes at the dinner table. They should be horse whipped!
