Just over the NY border in Broome Co. I have a hunting camp in Tioga NY too.

Do you call it Wilkes BEAR or Wilkes BARRY? We always called it Wilkes BEAR but not long ago everyone decide to go with what it “looked like”. Wilkes Barry now.

We always called it “Wilkes-Barra.” Back in the Fifties and early Sixties, when we went to my uncle and aunt’s hunting lodge in Sullivan County, we had to drive through WB because it was long before they built a freeway through the city.

It's Wilkes-BARRY. :-)

LOL.....oh I know where you are.

I'm in Ct., but born & bred in Manhattan and went to boarding school in the little town right outside of Wilkes-Barre.

I’ve always pronounced it Wilks Burral - heaven knows where that came from.
