The U.S. Department of Agriculture has refused to pay claims filed by two Idaho families who contend its pesticide treatment contaminated their crops and poisoned a cattle herd.
Instead, USDA told the families to file a lawsuit a costly endeavor that could bankrupt the farms and risk the $70 million potato pest eradication program in Idaho.
The Potato Cyst Nematode (PCN) was discovered in 2006, threatening Idahos $900 million potato industry. The next year, the USDA began treating infected fields with methyl bromide. The treatment reduced the pest, but it was stopped in 2014 because of concerns from a grower, said Brian Marschman, State Plant Health Director for APHIS, a branch of USDA.
Among those concerns were cattle with oozing lesions and spontaneously aborted calves, according to Idaho State Department of Agriculture documents obtained by The Associated Press.

The USDA ... well, they are consistent anyway, since FDR’s agriculture terror days!
First citrus. Now, taters. And, cows. More than the pesticides, where did the nematodes come from?
Those who live by the government, can die by the government.
what would have been a natural preditor to the nematode? Sounds like natural predators need to be looked at this new growing season.
How do they control the outgassing of fields to protect the surrounding residents? Who needs chemtrails when the EPA and USDA will come to your hometown and poison ya’ll?
We used to use methyl bromide to fumigate tobacco beds.
It was outlawed for us a long time ago for that usage.
Think it was used for ship fumigation in the past
Highly poisonous stuff.
Gotta call BS on this. Methyl Bromide is a bio-toxin. It kills anything it comes into contact with. So how would a crop be grown and then used as cattle feed? There is no systemic action with Methyl Bromide. A hay crop exposed to any level of the material would not germinate.
More info here. Another one of those dammed if you do and dammed if you don’t.

Anyone who grows potatoes knows the pest problem will explode if you keep replanting.
They need to use Thyme oil. We used it in a field last year and had almost zero nematodes. We’re using a lot more of it this year.
They live in the soil. They may need some better rotation but in sandy soils they are hard to control.
We’re the government, and we’re here to f*** you.
