That’s what I was thinking. I read that except for Scotland, most people in that area were much smaller than we are and women averaged 5’ to 5’3” while men averaged 5’6”. The Scots (men) were about 6’1”. My ancestors came here from Scotland in the 1700’s during the clearances and most males in my family are 6’ to 6’5”.

If the dress belonged to Kerr perhaps she was very small. It sank when she was 57 years old in 1642.

Possibly Kerr had her own younger girl with her as a lady in training or maybe it was someone else’s property.

Also, would any woman purchase clothes while on a trip? Could it be a gift for someone? Lots of possibilities.

That scarlet jacket that was recovered from the sunken warship in the Baltic was pretty cool too.
