The logical adjunct of that is that calls for a contested convention need to be squelched.
Indeed, calling for a contested convention at this point is tantamount to being a member of the "NeverTrump" crowd, because the only intent of a contested convention is to supplant Donald Trump. That has been the goal of the GOPe all along.
What the GOPe's specific route after that might be, I have no idea. I don't think they know. They just want to get it to that point, and then worry about it, I guess.
That may be a tough pill to swallow for Cruz supporters, but that's where we are: Ted Cruz using his own selfish ambition to play into the hands of the GOPe. Whether they would choose Cruz at that point is irrelevant, because all the consequences I outlines yesterday would still apply.
Thus, followed to its logical conclusion, Ted Cruz himself equals "NeverTrump", seemingly, at this point. That's the signal he's sending.
Maybe he's just banking for VP?
The People don't want a contested convention.
Tuesday night will provide additional clarity (as if any was needed). When Donald Trump sweeps these Northeast states and gets the lion's share of their delegates, and with Cruz coming in last place multiple times, it's clear that Indiana will go for Trump as well, which will be still more confirmation of Trump's inevitability, for those few Cruz supporters who remain in denial. Ted Cruz's political clout at that point will be quite limited, which is yet another reason for him to wise up sooner, rather than later.
Ted Cruz fought hard. But it's time to unify and heal.
Vote Trump
An interesting observation but, following that logic, doesn't Trump himself equal "NeverCruz" at this point. Indeed, aren't all political contest "NeverEveryoneElse" at some point. I have never heard of an active candidate supporting or looking out for the interest of his opponent.
When Donald Trump sweeps these Northeast states and gets the lion's share of their delegates, and with Cruz coming in last place multiple times, it's clear that Indiana will go for Trump as well, which will be still more confirmation of Trump's inevitability,
If you are really confident of this, what better outcome could be attained than to have a candidate who won a clear majority on his own merits rather than to win by default.
Then you have nothing to worry about...so, rejoice!
I seldom post anymore but I have to say that it has been a long time that I have seen someone post with such clarity and eloquence. I agree with every word you have said and you said it beautifully.
That said I think that you have missed a couple of things.
The GOP has hated Ted Cruz for years. They hate Cruz much more than Hillary.
The only thing that they hate more than Cruz is Trump.
The GOP has only rallied around Cruz in an effort to stop Trump.
If there is an open convention the GOP delegates won’t vote for Trump or Cruz. The gravy train that Washington DC lives on would be disrupted by either candidate winning the general election.
If there is a contested convention I will give you 4 to 1 odds that Jeb Bush will be the nominee. I will guarantee that neither Trump of Cruz win the nomination.
Contested convention = Jeb Bush
