I can’t answer your question but I do have an anecdote. Namely, the very first person I know who supported Trump—this was several mos before Trump announced—is a very devout Christian pastor, and a Southerner of many generations. He said, “The politicians have all but destroyed the country. Time to give a businessman a chance.”

If there’s one thing Southerners despise it’s shyster politicians, especially the ones that tell you how religious they are and that God willed them to do what they’re going. And canadians that pretend to be Southerners really get under their skin.
