Why didn't Rubio and Carson hang in there after they were mathematically eliminated?

Posted on 04/22/2016 12:47:59 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

Well, for one thing, it would be counterproductive. With three, four or five candidates drawing delegates, it simply prevents anyone from getting to 1237 and ensures that the GOPe gets to install one of their own establishment guys at the convention. The malleable "rules" are designed to to preserve, protect and defend the establishment ruling class. Nothing more.

Cruz knows this. He has betrayed the grassroots.

My take: Carson’s money dried up. Rubio lost badly in his home state and Kasich was polling better in the northeastern states, so the establishment went with Kasic over Rubio. Rubio probably didn’t have the money or PACs to go it alone.

The “country” will be a globalism playpen with Cruz where any conservatism will be diminished to a path of non-existence.

“He has put ambition ahead of everything else”

There aren’t many serious presidential contenders that behave otherwise.
I support Cruz because I think he would implement policies that I favor. I don’t support Trump because I don’t think he will follow through on what he is now saying.
If they happen to behave properly, so much the better. However since they are running for president I’ll assume they are often insincere: Trump about his beliefs, Cruz about his motives.

“state any plausible scenario whereby Ted Cruz limps into the GOP convention with, at best, 700 delegates or so, and magically seizes the nomination from Donald Trump without irreparably splintering the party, destroying voter enthusiasm, inducing countless Trump voters to stay home, and guaranteeing a Hillary victory in November.”

I don’t think Cruz has a shot of winning without most Trump supporters getting behind him. How can he do that? I don’t see how.

But I do think Cruz could run for Trump’s VP. If Trump does not get to 1237, Cruz could negotiate for that spot.

Of course, I have no idea if he is willing to do that, or if Trump is willing to do that.

If Cruz prevents Trump from getting to 1237, his path to the White House as president is pretty bleak.

I will be voting for the Republican nominee in November. But I am afraid many Trump or Cruz supporters will not vote for anyone other than their candidate. Hope a Trump-Cruz ticket is still possible. Otherwise, I hope the two camps can unite somehow.

They are eliminated the moment they cannot reach the 1237 number per the primary vote. Cruz is eliminated the same as Bush, Fiorina, Paul, Huckabee, Carson, Rubio, et al. Kasich is also eliminated but he’s hanging in there as an establishment ruling class traitor. If Cruz continues, he’s in the same class as Kasich.

Their is no good reason to stay in the race. Cruz is hoping for enough delegates to possibly make a deal with Kasich and Rubio. Kasich is only holding on for the Ohio delegates. Kasich dropping out would end the delegate game the same day, as the Ohio delegates would become unbound from Kasich and be bound to the runner up (Trump). Kasich’s play is more for himself than the GOP. He is trying to get something out of it.

Cruz has enough funding to get to the convention, but the results of a contested convention will negatively impact the country.
Putting your personal ambition ahead of the rest of us is not leadership.

There were no Primary Elections in 1860. It was solely a convention. The first Presidential Primary Elections didn’t occur until 52 years later in 1912.

Yes, Cruz has betrayed the grassroots.

But, he can't see it and will not allow himself to believe it.

He has crossed over into hubris and delusion. Pride goeth before the fall.

Trump has no donor money to speak of. And no PACs. He has his own money but hasn’t had to use much of it. All he has going for him is a bold and mighty powerful America-first conservative message that the voters are loving. Even the blue collar working class that normally votes democrat. And that’s going to help very much in the general. Cruz will not attract much in the way of cross over voters in the general. He repels them.

Yes, it is too late for a Trump/Cruz ticket in my opinion. Cruz has burned that bridge.

I think Kasich wants the VP slot on the ticket.
