Californians agree with Trump in favor of abortions, men in women’s bathrooms and higher taxes, so it makes sense.

Wrong. At least, in terms of Ca Republicans.

The overwhelmingly primary reason Trump is favorable in Ca is due to 1 reason.

Illegal Immigration as a result of the open southern border and unenforced federal immigration law.

The legions of foreigners in the state who are in Ca illegally. Not to mention, who are now able to obtain a CA drivers license (which of course, is good anywhere in the country...or the world for that matter) among the many other associated travesties.

For many/most California Republicans, that's issue #1.

You mean CA Republican voters agree that abortion should be illegal except in cases of rape or incest ? That is probably true.

And that the rich should have their special tax provisions for carried interest and life insurance schemes and long term capital gains adjusted so they pay ordinary income tax rates of 25% or 20% on that income ? And that the top tax rate for ordinary income should be reduced from 42% to 25% ? Yep, CA Republicans probably agree with Trump on that as well. Eliminating government preferences from the tax code is a pretty conservative position, even if it does gore your own ox.

I doubt CA Republicans care what 0.3% of the population chooses in terms of public restrooms. It is a relatively new issue and I doubt they have given it much thought.
