There should be nothing at all interesting about this discussion. Any republican who would do something about this platform to stop abortion would be elected. After being pummeled much worse that trump ever thought of.

Any republican even remotely living up to this bs platform after election point him out

Abortion is legal. Even late term abortion. And after the baby parts sale expose in which in a free speech country the video maker is demonized

The republicans have done nothing to stop abortion but talk

Those who hope this trump statement will affect him can keep dreaming

Exactly. This will have zero effect on poll numbers or voting and will likely increase turnout and crossovers in the northeast.

“The republicans have done nothing to stop abortion but talk”

To the contrary, perhaps you haven’t paid much attention to the numerous pro-life legislative victories led by state GOP governors and GOP state legislatures. For example, the pro-life bill passed in Texas a couple of years ago placed such onerous burdens on abortion providers that all but a handful have closed up shop. Numerous other states have followed suit with similar bills.

That’s far more than just “talk”

You miss the point, stanne.

Perhaps if Trump shift left and positions himself as moderate on social issues, he makes himself MORE palatable to the left. The issue is whether conservatives should support him.

I’ve been saying since day one, Trump shows signs of shifting left. I like his conservative platform, but his history makes me nervous.

In a sane world, Trump would be the reasonable Democrat nominee, similar to JFK. Cruz would be the Republican nominee. And Hillary and Bernie would be competing to run Venezuela.

You just nailed it. SOme of us have realized for years that the party plays pro-lifers for fools. They don’t care about abortion, they just use it to hoover up money. Then we get badly written laws at the state level that get struck down and the losers get stuck with lawyer’s fees. And let’s also be quite honest, Trump’s views on this mirror wuite a few other conservatives’ views on the issue as well.

This absolutely drives me CRAZY!

Are we so morally bankrupt that we're now only worried about expediency (i.e. political advantage and disadvantage)? Isn't there place for saying that Donald Trump is MORALLY WRONG in this position of his? Or are we regressing to the liberal mantra of "You can't judge! His position is no more or less moral than yours!"...?

Whether someone's polls (or actual votes, etc.) go up or down is irrelevant, morally speaking (especially given the emotion-driven sheep that make up our electorate). Even if this "move" were to gain Trump 100% of the general election vote, it'd still be morally corrupt. Evil things don't "become" good things because they gain some sort of political advantage.

Republicans have banned partial birth abortion. Many Republican governors have cut off Medicaid funding to planned parenthood.
