You sound like a reasonable Trump supporter.

You know he’s not a conservative but you think he’s the strongest on illegal immigration and will build a wall.

I submit for you to think about that there is nothing in Trump’s business or personal history to make anyone believe Trump will keep his word on anything.

Plus, Trump has admitted to hiring illegals to work on his building and he STILL hires them for his resort in Florida.

Also, he says there will be a back door in the wall to admit illegals who want to come in and work if we need them.

I believe Ted Cruz has a far more solid and thought out plan to help small business, put Americans back to work and eliminate crushing taxes and regulations on businesses.

We all have to decide... just sharing my opinion.

What very kind words, altura. It is a joy to be able to communicate about issues and not falling into the passionate out of control expressions too many of us on both sides have entered into.

I actually have pondered deeply the questions you ask me to consider. I have read two of his books so far, (”Crippled America”and “Surviving at the Top”) I have actually found what I do believe to be self knowledge, and fundamental elements of wisdom in the man. I DO believe that keeping his word is important to him. He is also highly practical and flexible. That flexibility may cause dismay of many of us in the future, but I am convinced that he is not seeking to betray us.

He is a flawed individual, and in subtle ways, especially in the “Surviving at the Top,” he shows that he knows it and has learned to keep a balance despite his extreme success. I recommend that book. It is a fascinating insight into how he thinks.

Darlin and I went to one of his events, and we doubled over laughing when we saw the campaign buttons being offered for sale. Our favorite and the one that came home with us reads, “We Shall Overcomb!”

What he does for us with respect to the Wall may not be perfect, but I’m willing to accept imperfection if we can at least staunch the flood by many more percentages than we would see under other candidates on either side of the aisle.

I can understand the good points of Ted Cruz’s approach, but I honestly do not believe he would be able to make it happen. I’ve been thinking of the analogy where Cruz could be thought of as a greyhound and Trump is a junk yard dog.
A greyhound might bark, and carry on in protecting a perimeter, but might not be a huge deterrent to some. Right now, I want the junk yard dog. That dog is not elegant, but he flat does the job that needs doing.

Another thing that makes me comfortable about him is the idea that because he has been at the top, he already has enormous power. I have become convinced that he is not in the race for obtaining power, but truly for seeking to do the best thing he can do to serve America in ways he is equipped to do. He has mastered power, and it does not master him.

He also seems to have worked out in his personal life some of the interpersonal relationship errors he made. (We do all have them, don’t we?) The evidence for this is those kids. He placed them first, and it shows. A narcissist would not have been capable of that level of nurturing.

Thank you for letting me respond to your very thoughtful comment.
