Governor Pence was pleased to welcome Mr. Trump back to Indiana and hear firsthand his plans for the country. The Governor was also grateful for the opportunity to describe Indiana's economic success and expressed his desire to have a partner in the White House who will help advance pro-growth economic policies, reduce burdensome regulation and curb the size and scope of government. With more than 130,000 new private sector jobs created since he took office, Governor Pence believes addressing these issues is critical in order for Indiana to continue to be a great place to live, work and raise a family.

I believe Indiana is a right-to-work state. Forget regulations. Forget taxes. The only thing driving this decision is Carrier's claim that they were going to cut production costs by several hundred million dollars a year. The only way they are going to accomplish that is to move production to a low wage country like Mexico. If they don't cut costs then stock prices take a hit and the executives lose their bonuses.
By the way comrade, Karl Marx, like you , really believed in free trade. So I'd be real careful about who you cal a socialist when it is you that is promoting it.
PS: Don't tell me Smoot-Hawley caused the Great Depression. That is pure gloBULList propaganda an insult to anyone that had to live thru it
$3 or $5 is not important. Relative wages are declining particularly at the middle level and below. Corporations are trying to reduce labor costs. Where I work they are farming out a greater portion of the spreadsheet work (which requires a much higher skill set than the average worker) to offshore because labor costs are 1/3 of what they are here. Many of the trade workers pay is down as well. I deal with groups of physicians and they complain their compensation is down. With the reduced income workers (or former workers) won’t have the income to purchase the products for companies like Carrier. It is a vicious cycle where each company in turn cuts wages which reduces the available market for not only their own products but other products.
Not sure where the end is but having an increasing portion of the workforce not working creates social stresses.
Henry Ford increased pay for his workers partially because he recognized that he needed a market for his cars.
See, you care not a whit about Carrier and their interests (how dare they expect that, I believe you said), yet somehow, you expect THEM to care about your interests... how DARE they not! You are to be served, right? Businesses have an obligation to employ people! AMERICAN people!!
Yeah, right.
Businesses are in the business of making money. They do that by providing goods or services at a price that compares favorably with their competitors. You want to make it even LESS favorable for them to provide those goods and services here in this country? They can go sell their units to Malaysia and we’ll just have fewer options in the marketplace and those 1000 Americans you claim your protectionism will help will STILL be unemployed. Except now they might not have an affordable A/C unit, either. ;)
Go hoard gold or something.
Go buy a Che t-shirt and visit Cuba. They got real cheap labor there.
UT makes money. Lots of money.
The American People, remember them?, have the right to vote for a protectionist government much tot he chagrin of Free Traitors and their corporate globalist masters.
Not realistic.
Then you’re not going to compete against Mexico.
Bull. Income taxes make us broke. Tariffs are good and consumption based even better.
Sure, they have the RIGHT to vote for a protectionist government, but it would be ignorant of them to do so, as they are only cutting off their nose to spite their face.
And yes, UT makes a lot of money. But... was that LINE of the company making money, or did they need to move it to Mexico to justify continuing to make Carrier A/C units at all?
They’re not a charity outfit, that must be dedicated to churning out A/C units at a loss just so that Ma an Pa Unionbenefits can be guaranteed employment.
The CEO of Carrier when asked and couldn't name one regulation or specify any taxes that was the cause for leaving. They were making money, lots of money. Don;t by the gloBULList hype.
The same regulations impact every other air conditioning manufacturer as well.
Sen. Donnelly: Carrier never cited federal regulations as reason for move
Murdering American Manufacturing: Strictly Business
It's one reason and one reason only. U.S. employees make more than $3 an hour.
And now they’ll be making even more money, and I applaud them for it! :)
Maybe it’ll light a fire under the governments that USED to extract taxes from them to figure out how to make their jurisdiction more friendly.
If offshoring is so good why doesn't Madison Ave create add campaigns base on the benefits of offshoring?
I never said de industrializing was ‘so good’ ;)
And just because something makes good financial sense doesn’t mean it’s good political sense ... heck, just look at protectionism... bad financial sense, but darn good political hay to be made by demagogues looking to promote it as some sort of panacea ;)
Demagogues like George Washington.
Sure, if you like :)
Keep wrapping yourself in the flag while your promoted policies make people poorer. At least YOU’LL feel good, and that’s all that really matters!
