In a sense of political correctness turned political irony, the abolitionist and underground railroad conductor will replace Democrat President Andrew Jackson.
On Wednesday the U.S. Treasury reported that Tubman, who during the Civil War was active in the Union cause, serving as a nurse, a cook, spy and scout, will replace Jackson on the front of the bill. The seventh President, whose supporters founded what became the Democratic Party, will move to the back of the bill along with an image of the White House.
Jackson, noted as a military man, has in recent years fallen out of favor over his treatment of Native Americans and the fact that he owned slaves. Earlier this year groups railed against the naming of a new warship, the USS Jackson, by Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus, despite the fact that the vessel was named in honor of Mississippis capital city by the former Governor of the Magnolia State.
Tubman on the other hand was a supporter of the anti-slavery Republican Party, though some argue she may not have been a fan of Mr. Lincolns at the time.
Further, to a degree she encouraged insurrection against the Federal government, helping abolitionist leader John Brown recruit volunteers to seize the Federal Arsenal at Harpers Ferry in 1859.
Biographer Kate Clifford Larson has noted Tubman was comfortable with guns:
Harriet Tubman carried a small pistol with her on her rescue missions, mostly for protection from slave catchers, but also to encourage weak-hearted runaways from turning back and risking the safety of the rest of the group. Tubman carried a sharp-shooters rifle during the Civil War.
Harriet Tubmans pistol and saber are on display at the Florida A & M University (FAMU) Black Archives in Tallahassee, Florida.

They should put Tupac on the new 4 trillion bill. Tupac got assassinated.
It was Jefferson who started the action against them, but his Secretary of State screwed Eaton and it was left to Monroe, I believe, to really end their piracy for good. Jackson did some good. He cleaned the Brits clock in Florida, hanged a British agitator he caught stirring up the Seminoles, won the Creek War, suppressed South Carolina when it attempted to defy Federal Law (not so good?), and was responsible for the Trail of Tears, screwing tribesmen who were his allies in tge Creek War. He also cheated at duels, but then he WAS a Democrat.
Any way to protest this? Rather any effective way to protest this?
There was discussion of minting trillion-dollar coins for ending the national debt.
In similar news, the Bureau of Printing and Engraving announced that they will begin issuing new denominations.
There will now be a 9-dollar bill with the portrait of Bruce Jenner on it. Caitlin will be on the 3.
But would we want a Bill Clinton dollar?
I hear it attracts a lot of women when dragged through a trailer park
Oh groan let’s not even go there
But the Jimmy Carter dollar wouldn’t. It would hardly even lust.
Can any cutlery expert here tell me just what type of weapon that is? It looks unusual to me but I’m no expert. Are those ivory grips?
Slavery was a blot on America, and being frank about it is wonderful. It’s even more wonderful to be frank that it has been Democrats who have made hay of the situation from antebellum times until now.
Donald Trump hasn’t said much about this, not being all that comfortable with his GOP association, but oh boy could he make some political hay of his own once he has full throated GOP support once more.
I’m confused.
Are you for blotting George Washington out of our history because he was a slave owner?
Not bad, but the new bill, like most, will acquire a nickname.
“Hey, can you spot me a Tubbie ‘til Monday?”
;^)
Wasn’t Harriet Tubman known as “Moses” during her Underground Railroad days?
In grade school they taught us that “Moses” Tubman was so determined to lead fleeing slaves to freedom that when one would say he was too exhausted to go on, she pointed her pistol at him and said, “You go on or die”.
So we are putting the picture of a terrorist co-conspirator on the twenty dollar bill.
Why not just put Osama Bin Laden on the bill and be done with it.
New 20 bump for later....

Hamilton was a war Revolutionary War hero. He is not portrayed with a gun so that is a non issue.
