Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Wednesday will announce plans to both keep Alexander Hamilton on the front of the $10 bill and to knock Andrew Jackson off the front of the $20 in favor of Harriet Tubman, sources tell POLITICO. Lew is expected to roll out a set of changes that also include putting leaders of the women’s suffrage movement on the back of the $10 bill, and incorporating civil rights era leaders and other important moments in American history into the $5 bill. Also, Jackson isn’t getting completely booted off the $20 bill. He’s likely to remain on the back. Story Continued Below
Lew's reversal comes after he announced last summer that he was considering replacing Hamilton on the $10 bill with a woman. The plan drew swift rebukes from fans of Hamilton, who helped create the Treasury Department and the modern American financial system. Critics immediately suggested Lew take Jackson off the $20 bill given the former president's role in moving Native Americans off their land.

The Indians have wanted this for years. Jackson is not one of their favorites to put it mildly. And only this president would let this happen

I’m sympathetic to the Indians here. Jackson was a true Democrat. I know the timing is bad b/c this prez allowed it.
But at least we saved the founder of financial capitalism!

They couldn’t find anyone more important in history, than Tubman?
They tried this with Susan B. Anthony, remember.
And not to soon, paper money will go the way of the silver and gold certificates.
This was a compromise, because Washington is keeping the Redskins!
Jackson was a sleazy DEMOCRAT. I don’t shed any tears for removing him, although I’m sure they could have found someone a little more important to the country than Tubman.
Actually it's a great choice. Harriet Tubman was a heroine of staggering courage and faith in God.
A Broadway play influencing keeping the $10 and changing the $20 instead is hogwash. Someone said ‘hey, let’s be more IN YOUR FACE and pick the bill dispensed by ATM’s, the $20!!!”. THIS is the reason they switched it to the $20, the $10 is more scarcely used in circulation.
My ATM recently gave me the option of taking cash in $10s instead of the usual $20s. Brilliant!
But I suddenly feel hungry for pancakes.....
