In conventional conservative doctrine, the mainstream press and much of the new media are little more than arms of Democratic Party officialdom. Also, bigotry and misogyny are no longer widespread problems, in the rights tellingand to the extent that they still exist, they are no more prevalent on the right than on the left.
In their efforts to stop Trump, conservatives have sidelined these and other premises about American political culture, so that the generic liberal critique of conservatism might be deployed against him and him alone.

‘Bush lied people died.’
I agree, ifinnegan. Trump is not helping GW win a third term. He’s not borrowing GW’s baggage. Don’t forget that Carl Rove admitted that he blew the PR side of Iraq. He advised W not to respond to their partizan attacks.
But that is no reason to imply that Trump is a leftist. Buchanan and other conservatives opposed Iraq, and had I known the post-invasion strategy I would would not have supported it either. Sending humvees out as human mine detectors? Sickens me. That was brain-dead.
‘Corporations and financial institutions are the cause of our problems.’
I don’t recall that one.
‘Planned Parenthood does good things.’
Not the full context. He wants to end abortion in family planning. That’s the main outrage. Family Planning could end up being another ‘Big Bird’ issue, the kind that hurt Romney.
His plan to sell off national parks is uber-conservative. I call that a huge offset to the piddling family planning budget.
‘International trade and trade agreements are bad.’
Patrick J. Buchanan:
Academics revere Adam Smith, David Ricardo and Richard Cobden.
But none of them ever built a great nation. Patriots look to Alexander Hamilton and those post-Civil War Republicans who built the greatest national industrial powerhouse the world had ever seen.
Indeed, what great nation did free trade ever build?
As father of a united Germany, Chancellor Bismarck said, when he decided to build Germany on the American and not the British model, ‘I see that those countries which possess protection are prospering, and that those countries which possess free trade are decaying.’

Hamiltonian economics are what made our nation great. By 1900 we produced half of the world’s GDP. That means we kicked the tail end of every other nation on earth.
