The conservative spectrum is actually quite broad and includes many who consider themselves conservative but are not up to snuff by purists here. Conservative zealotry has pretty much been rejected for the broader conservatism that includes many more people

I think Cruz has done a much better job as have his supporters of staying on message.
My primary understanding of the Trump campaign is that everyone besides him and his supporters are cheaters and liars.
Telling me he wants American to win again is meaningless.
Being a constitutional conservative is verifiable and comprehensible.
That is why “very conservative” people consistently support Cruz more than Trump.
I think with all due respect to Jim Rob, that is the essential nature of Free Republic.
