Yes, no way would Cruz answer affirmatively. But he could have said something like, “I haven’t given that hypothetical any thought. I am totally focused on my campaign. We’re doing great and looking forward to the GOP convention in Cleveland.”

Didn’t have to say yes or no, just deflect and say he’s focused on the task at hand which is winning the nomination.

The interesting thing is that up ‘til now Cruz has been saying exactly that. When asked, he’s consistently replied, “I’ll be the nominee,” “I’ll be the nominee,” “I’ll be the nominee.”

This is the first time he’s answered, “no.” A subtle, but definite change. I think Cruz has been reading poll internals and is beginning to see the handwriting on the wall.
