CBS Battleground Polls: Donald Trump Extends Leads, Lack of “Authenticity” Dogging Ted Cruz…
The Concervative Treehouse ^ | 4/17/16 | Sundance

CBS via YouGov has released a series of battleground polls for New York, Pennsylvania and California (full pdf’s below). Interestingly the polls are not identical questionnaires; instead they appear geographically nuanced, specifically on the Democrat queries.

However, there are some rather interesting trend similarities which are embedding as the campaigns of the three remaining republican candidates take on increased importance:

The electorate has made up their mind. There is only about 3% of the electorate who might change their vote. There will not be any “surging” per se’. Donald Trump’s overall appeal is across all demographics and internal ideologies. Donald Trump wins with women voters, and higher information political consumers. Very Importantly – Trump is seen as most authentic and capable as a political change agent. Trump also leads with Hispanic voters in California, and absolutely crushes the competition with the Asian electorate. The most important issue in all three states (NY, PA, CA) are jobs/economy. And economic voters are overwhelmingly Trump voters. (Trump also leads on the alternative issues – second place: security/terrorism) Conversely, Ted Cruz is seen as the most “inauthentic” candidate in the race.

Pay attention! Trump’s brand of reality TV has highly successful entrepreneurs putting real money on the best of the startup ideas and teams participating in the competition. A lot of new business successes have come from his show.

All “reality TV” is not alike.

Yeah, to Jonah’s type it’s high praise that the Establishment has that power and might succeed in squashing Trump.

Please—nobody interrupt the “conservative” think thank bacchanal in DC!

“Which of the candidates do you feel is the most.”
Electable in November:
Donald Trump 57%
Ted Cruz 17%
John Kasich 26%

What? Cruz comes in THIRD again! I thought he was the only one who could beat Hillary?

Nice take——there’s also Rule 20 (I believe) which allows a candidate to challenge delegates and can prevent them from being seated.

In every poll Donald Trump wins the “he-is-who-he-is” factor.

As Lee Atwater would tell you, that’s critically important. Once the broader electorate sense “who you are”, and become comfortable with that sensibility, there is a remarkable shift toward granting the benefit of doubt in policy and change.

[The most recent example of such a benefactor was Bill Clinton in his prime.]

However, in the same polls, Ted Cruz is viewed as the candidate willing to tell you everything you want to hear so long as it benefits him. That’s the “authenticity” issue. Just as there is a long-term benefit in positive authenticity polling, there is a long-term detriment in negative authenticity polling.

Opinions of “authenticity” are almost impossible to change once they embed. The word ‘almost’ is an understatement, because no politician in modern times has ever been able to reverse the authenticity component.

Bernie Sanders also benefits from positive opinions in authenticity, and Hillary Clinton is viewed similarly to Cruz as inherently inauthentic as a matter of mere disposition.

Hillary clinton mehcruz quote

Lyin’ Ted” and issues with “The System” are linguistic kill shots that candidate Trump has used skillfully. The greater benefit is now becoming easier to see.

Haha..Agreed! Is Joel still on Fox 5 at 9:00? I never understood how Osteen and other televangelists lived in mansions and on other people’s millions but somehow came across as servants of God. In a way, they are just like politicians. Ted and Heidi = Jim and Tammy Faye.

Thanks for the realtime report.

Remind them that astute evangelicals slapped-down Cruz all over the south even though he rigorously campigned for their votes..

Well, back in 1980, people were questioning whether a B-movie star could seriously be our next president. Especially one that shared top billing with a chimpanzee.

Of course, critics of Reagan conveniently overlooked the fact that Reagan had a very strong "non-acting" background that made him a terrific choice for president.

Now yes, Donald Trump had a reality TV show but it was only a small part of what he did during his lifetime of building companies and developing real estate in probably the most challenging real estate market in the world (NYC).

By the way, I think Trump's TV experience helps him communicate and connect with the American people in the same way that Reagan's movie/radio experience helped him.

Not a bad thing.

N-i-c-e deconstruction. Sums it up succinctly.

His southern strategy geared to evangelicals was one of Cruz's serial flops....perhaps his biggest miscalculation. He was supposed to become front-runner w/ the Bog Mo from southern voters.

Happy to say---Trump won everything. Evangelicals want to practice their faith unimpeded....and when Trump said he is going to take care of Christian-hating Muslims, that's all they needed to hear.

Cruz will never say anything like that b/c he is beholden to Goldman Sachs' globalist plans.

In the mid atlantic, new england and rust belt states left to vote, I expect Cruz will come in 3rd as often as 2nd as often as not.

It is INSANE that anyone is remotely thinking Cruz will be the nominee.

The nominee is either Trump or its going to be a party hack, most likely someone who was never even on the ballot... or if they were were beat down long ago.

Tomorrow Trump will take New York in a landslide... Cruz will be lucky if he gets a second place finish, let alone any delegates.

The TV time that Donald had allowed him to have a presence in folks consciousness and allowed them to form and have opinions of him long before he decided to do the run for President... and its because of this the usual “gotcha” crap didn’t work on him.

When he would do something that could be portrayed as a gotcha moment, folks already had an opinion of him, so they would not let that one event redefine him. Most politicians the general public knows nothing about, so it is very easy to influence or define them in the press because no one knows who they are... so one single moment is all it takes to create a definition of them. They couldn’t do that to Trump, and it wasn’t from lack of trying.

Let the rending and lamentation begin.

But but but, he is rejected by 75% of, well, everybody, and only R. Cruz can pull it together and unite everyone and all will be good once again.

'sides, them mescans and women folk are simply lying when they say they overwhelmingly support D Trump.
