Trump: ‘I Don’t Want To Play The Rule Game…We Live In A Democracy’ [VIDEO]
Daily Caller ^ | 4/17/16 | Kerry Picket

Posted on 04/18/2016 2:51:08 AM PDT by markomalley

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump told reporters at a press conference Sunday in Staten Island that the Republican primary nomination process is “rigged” against him and he refuses to play by the rules established by GOP state party committees he deems unfair.

“I don’t want to play the rule game, because I’ll tell you what, we live in a democracy and it’s all about getting the bosses out. The bosses are picking. Now I’m winning, you will say. I’m wining by 200 delegates. I’m winning, more importantly in my opinion, I’m winning by 2 million votes. In other words I’ve gotten more than 2 million votes,” Trump said, when asked why he does not work within the rules different state contests have.

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz swept up all of Wyoming’s available delegates at the state’s GOP convention Saturday night. Although Wyoming Republican voters caucused on March 12 at local conventions to begin the delegate election process, Trump and his supporters called it a voter-less primary.

A similar situation occurred in Colorado where Cruz delegates won all the open slots to go to the convention through a process that began at local caucuses on March 1.

RNC Chairman Reince Priebus fired back at Trump this week for accusing the party of having a rigged system.

New York Republican Rep. Peter King told Fox News earlier on Sunday that the “system is what it is.” Ohio Gov. John Kasich as well as Cruz could call the New York primary unfair too, should Trump win at least 50 percent of the GOP vote statewide and receive at least 50 percent of the Republican votes in most or all  of the Empire State’s congressional districts.

“He may get 53 or 54 percent of the vote, but if he gets 100 percent of the delegates, now, Cruz or Kasich could say, ‘That’s unfair.’ The very nature of a nominating process is always — Iowa has caucuses. Some have open primaries. Others just have local conventions. That’s just the way it’s been and it’s not meant to be easy. Whatever it is, I don’t see it as an attempt to stop Donald Trump,” King said. “These rules have been in effect in one way or another, with their idiosyncracies, for one hundred years. And in some cases, others get changed every few years, but that’s part of running for president. you have to learn how to navigate the minefields,” he added.

>The Donald is a textbook case for showcasing the founders fears.

Actually Donald Trump is exactly the type of man they wanted to run for office. The founders never wanted a professional political class always mooching of the public. Instead they wanted citizen leaders who would return to their normal lives after serving for a period.

The current mantra is that Trump is not “playing” smart because he should be playing by the rules like Cruz is doing. It’s like play their game or else. I have heard this all over talk radio, the Internet and other media. Do they really expect us to accept this BS? Do they really expect us to accept this corruption? For Pete’s sake, the corrupt political mafia syndicate wrote the rules. Obviously, they wrote those rules specifically and for only one purpose - to control the process. The rules are cooked, they are crooked, and they were written specifically and for only one reason - to make sure the party bosses get to pick their puppet, period. We the People do not want or need either of the corrupt party machines any longer. They are an nothing more than inside, establishment cliques, and both are crooked as hell. It’s time to blow up the parties. The people certainly do not need such underhanded subterfuge. The country needs to forcefully purge itself of this slime and do so immediately. No more slick political lying and backstabbing tricks!! There has got to be a better way to run a country.

The facts are right in front of you there genius. We're a constitutional republic and a representative democracy. I think maybe you need to set down your political philosophy book and go back to to your high school government text book.

Here's some more truth for you to search out from the encyclopedia britannica:

Republic, form of government in which a state is ruled by representatives of the citizen body. Modern republics are founded on the idea that sovereignty rests with the people, though who is included and excluded from the category of the people has varied across history. Because citizens do not govern the state themselves but through representatives, republics may be distinguished from direct democracy, though modern representative democracies are by and large republics. The term republic may also be applied to any form of government in which the head of state is not a hereditary monarch.

How many times does Trump get to falsely claim we’re a democracy before someone publicly corrects him that the USA is a republic?

No, they don’t. Delegates do. Of course, “party bosses” themselves are elected by lower ranking people in the party, so there’s that aspect as well.

Trump’s wrong that we live in a “democracy.” We live in a republic which utilises democratic institutions such as voting.

Trump’s right, however, in that the “rules” are largely there to just game the system to the establishment’s favour. They don’t screw him, specifically - they’re there to endemically screw any outsider who would present a challenge to the status quo.

Is illuminating. I particularly like the part about elected representatives and officials being responsible for exercising the power given to them by voters (sound democratic to you?).

Specifically the USA is a Constitutional Republic with the ultimate power derived from the voters. Until recently, I believe this was completely true. But with states like Utah, Wyoming, Colorado, etc. where the common voters were deemed unnecessary, that kinda takes out the intended rights of the voter.

No, they're there specifically to keep only him out of power. Only him. It's a conspiracy—what about this do you not get?

You’re lying:

The CO list of 2012 delegates and 2016 delegates reveal many of the delegates pledged to Cruz are retreaded Romney supporters.

Santorum had won the Colorado 2012 vote by 6%. The Colorado delegation did not honor the vote. Instead the majority of delegates voted for Romney.

Here are some of Romney retread delegates from the delegate lists.

Kim Ransom
Libby Szabo
Joy Hoffman
John Carson
Kent Lambert
Robin Coran
Kendal Unruh
Guy Short
Steven Hofman
Ray Garcia
Kevin Grantham
Wayne Williams
Dudley Brown

After they cheated Santorum in 2012, a huge group CO republicans quit the republican party and became independents or went with one of the other 3rd parties popular in Colorado.

The selection process for Colorado delegates is a staged show they perform every 4 years. It is performed to disguise the fact that the delegates are primarily pre-selected cohorts of the party insiders. It disenfranchises 1,000,000 voters.

Do not fail to recognize that these delegates had been pre-slated for JEB BUSH and merely functioning as placeholders until the GOPe dumps Cruz for their own boy.

“The elite don’t get it that there’s a difference between a vote where the delegates are awarded to the candidate with a majority vs a cabal of well-connected party elitists being persuaded to choose a candidate that supports their stranglehold on power? That’s absurd. They don’t give a damn about voters, and the sooner they can totally eliminate us from their process, the happier they’ll be.”

Couldn’t have said it better. The system is corrupt on both sides. If I want to attribute ANY good intent to it, it’s because it might have been set up to keep an unelectable candidate from being nominated. Instead, it’s being used to try and keep anyone who’s not bought and paid for and a party hack from being the candidate - or, more likely, anyone who’s not a card-carrying member of the Uniparty, where it makes no difference is you have an “R” or “D” next to your name.

Agreed with the founders intent ‘re career pols, however, it’s his rants about democracy and rigged contests that stick in my throat. The majority of these rules are quite old and have nothing to do with the Donald. Where are his vaunted leadership and smarts.

He’s just used to paying off the pols he wants something from.

Most importantly, the man is already getting his supporters to be ready to take what he may not be able to win outright.

Mob rule. The founder’s greatest fear and the Donald s most potent weapon. Crazies who refuse to let any stray thoughts permeate the gray matter.

A good title for an all Cruz site would be The People’s Temple of Ted Cruz. Coolaid will be served Sunday after the Reverend Cruz preaches about his victories without voters.

The CO list of 2012 delegates and 2016 delegates reveal many of the delegates pledged to Cruz are retreaded Romney supporters.

So what? They had to have supported someone in 2012. And the 2012 vote was a straw poll, not a regulated vote.

I will grant you that most of the delegates are pre-selected, but that's hardly a surprise. The people who want to be delegates are generally going to be people active in the party, and the people elected are generally going to be those who are better known. But people still vote for which delegates they want.

If 2012 Trump-leaning people abandoned the party after 2012, that would explain why their slates were disorganized and they had poor turnout.

Trump's claim that he took a principled stand not to participate because it was all crooked is a flat-out lie. A guy who chooses not to participate on principle doesn't have an in-state manager and campaign staff for that state, and doesn't fire the guy two days before the caucuses. Those actions on Trump's party confirm that he did want to compete, but found out too late that the people heading up his campaign were not doing a good job.

I personally prefer primaries to caucuses, and Colorado's system is particularly cumbersome. But Trump's organization screwed up badly as well.

“the USA is a republic”

It’s a democratic republic. Our representatives are supposed to represent US, THE VOTERS.

“The Framers founded a republic because they recognized that mob rule could be just as great a threat to liberty as the rule of a king. Representation, Madison explains in Federalists 63, is “sometimes necessary as a defense to the people against their own temporary errors and delusions.” America’s constitutional framework thereby seeks to protect the people from the dangers of unchecked popular democracy. The people’s representatives, of course, remain ultimately accountable to the people who can vote them out of office as they see fit.

“In everyday speech, people praise democracy as the most just form of government. What they mean by “democracy” is a regime in which free elections regularly take place and a government that protects the rights of all. Understood this way, America is a democracy, or to be more precise, a democratic republic.”
