Trump convention chief: 'There's not going to be a second ballot'
The Washington Examiner ^ | April 17, 2016 | Curt Mills

"The dialogue and the narrative of this campaign isn't focusing on the real issue," Trump convention manager Paul Manafort said on ABC's "This Week" Sunday. "The real issue is there's not going to be a second ballot."

"There are many paths to [a delegate majority] for Donald Trump, between now and middle of June," Manafort said. "We are working all of those paths." .
.
.
"The states that we just finished — this was the time when Cruz was supposed to be ahead," Manafort said. "With Cruz, he wins the reddest of red states, where you get voterless primaries, where the rules favors organization versus appeal to the voters."

"Trump wins in states that we have to win the presidency," Manafort said.

I’m just curious, since you said you’d vote for Trump in the general...

If Trump doesn’t win on the first ballot, and Cruz doesn’t win on the second ballot, who would you rather have win on a subsequent and final winning ballot?

Trump or whoever the GOPe tries to slip in to “rescue the Party” from chaos? (Kasich, Jeb, Romney, PaulRyan, etc. etc.)

Your tagline expresses your opinion and nothing else; if you think it’s really clever, I beg to disagree.

From my research and understanding, Mr. Manafort’s expertise is in securing delegates and handling the range of duties at a convention. Once he secures the nomination, there’s nothing he could be realistically expected to do as far as influencing the general election. He’s not a routine day-to-day campaign manager in the mode of Corey Lewandowski or even say Ed Rollins. He is a specialist when it comes to delegate battles (overseeing the only contentious convention in modern history, 1976).
McCain and Romney did not have protracted primaries, thus I suppose they felt no need to call upon his services.
The worst news would be if Mr. Trump does not become POTUS. What makes me recognize Mr. Manafort as the most important man right now is the mere fact that his success will determine whether we will ultimately have THE CHANCE TO VOTE FOR TRUMP IN NOVEMBER!! It literally is in his capable hands!!

Trump is my guy. 2ndDivisionVet likes Ted Cruz. This does not make him any less of a patriot IMO. Many of us are passionate about who we support. I understand why Cruz supporters are locked in. Just think about this for a moment...assuming Trump or Cruz, we are all going to get a candidate we can rally around.

Thanks for the information, that’s why I’ve been here for 16 years, not for rah-rah Trump rallies with newbies bashing Cruz, a man we’ve watched here for years carrying conservative standard against all opposition.

Is your posting history accurate, nothing between November ,2008 and April, 2016?

The only cult around here is you Trump people; you really are as bad as the Obama folks in ‘08.

If that's what it takes to fight back, so be it.

The argument for Trump is simple and irrefutable: better to have a bullshit artist in there than someone who has spent a lifetime optimizing their skills in the craft of screwing us over.

My esteem for Mr. Manafort is limited to the fact that I am now more reassured that Mr. Trump will be nominated.
There hasn’t been a convention fight for the republicans since 1976. At that time, I was only 16 yrs old and wasn’t honestly aware of all of the figures involved in brokering the Ford/Reagan battle. Granted, I admit to only recently taking interest in who Mr. Manafort is. I’m just extremely grateful that Mr. Trump knew to whom to turn to at this critical point.
Mr. Manafort just turned 67 and I view him as a specialist, not a routine campaign manager. Once a general election commences, his services aren’t necessarily pertinent.

Nonsense ..Cruz carefully set himself up to be on both sides of every potential controversial issue ...I will credit Cruz with being very Klintonesque in his sliminess ... it’s funny how Cruz parrots Trump’s positions after he sees how popular they are , after Trump takes the risk and heat for said positions ...Cruz is a big phony

Pro-lifers know otherwise and would turn the argument around, although Trump did that himself in about 24 hours last week.

Manafort acquitted Trump brilliantly. He’s worth twenty times whatever he’s getting paid.

pro-lifers got nothing after half a century of voting for people who pander on the issue

might be time to try something different?
