NASHVILLE Dozens of undocumented immigrant students from Chattanooga and other parts of Tennessee rallied Tuesday at the state Legislature and spoke with House members in hopes of reviving stalled legislation that would let them pay in-state tuition rates to attend public colleges and universities.
The bill failed last year in the House by a single vote after passing the Senate overwhelmingly.

Sen. Todd Gardenhire, R-Chattanooga, who sponsored the Senate bill and passed it overwhelmingly last year, said, "I'm hoping they bring it out. Let's have a vote one way or the other."
Earlier this year, Gardenhire said he was concerned the House bill could face more problems due to anti-immigrant sentiment stirred up by GOP presidential hopeful Donald Trump.

“Id say that the entire population of a state will collectively take out no more money than they put in.”
Well, here is the deal sparky, if I understand your strangely worded missive you suggest the state of Tennessee collects more money than they spend. NOT TRUE. The state is running a deficit and a debt. For the people in Rio Linda that means they take in less tax revenue than they are spending. So in fact, they DO collectively take out MORE money than they put in.
Just this year they are spending $1.2 billion more than they collected.
You can follow this and other links if you’ll just google “State Deficit”
“truem” What is that? And the statement is true. If you take benefits you are a net cost to the system because you aren’t making enough to pay your own way. End of story.

“I also wonder if the tax revenue from the illegal immigrants in Tennessee is enough to subsidize their in-state tuition rates. If not then Tennesseeans (Im one) are subsidizing the illegals.”
You are, and a whole lot more. How do you like it? Feel good about your contribution to mankind?
I see no reason why someone here illegally should have a benefit denied to my US citizen wife when I was in Alabama for the Air Force's reasons rather than for my own.
“you suggest the state of Tennessee collects more money than they spend. NOT TRUE.”
Hmmm. Tennessee’s not required to have a balanced budget. North Carolina is. But the requirement of a given state to have a balanced budget has nothing to do with subsidizing illegals.
You say “If you take benefits you are a net cost to the system because you arent making enough to pay your own way”. If that were true then insurance companies would go broke.
Have a nice day.
