At one time, the north end of Hartford was Jewish majority, and if I am not mistaken, Sophie Tucker was a famous jazz singer.
I am not aware of Jews in the North End. Jews started moving into the town of West Hartford probably back in the 30s. It was unrestricted. Some areas are still called the reservation.
It has black in the north end for at least 80 years.
Sophie was a singer and radio star. My dad talked about her. He was born in 1913. Was quite popular back in the days. There’s are video on youtube of her singing on the Ed Sullivan show back in the 60s with the singer actor Maurice Chevalier. Maurice was in the hit movie “Gigi”.
