My granddaughter and I were looking at a baby picture of MY grandmother the other day, and I was able to share a story. When first born in the early 1900s, my grandmother was very tiny— may have been a premie. Anyway, they put her in a shoe box and kept her warm on top of a stove. I really enjoyed sharing that story with the kiddo But then I’m the family historian and story keeper. :) BTW, just found out that one of my great grandfathers was at Valley Forge and lived through it. Presently the documentation is online. I need to send for it. Really surprising find!
You also might want to buy the book on Valley Forge by Newt Gingrich. It's very cheap....less than $10.
There's also a special Valley Forge Site which has great documentation and notes the visit of Mrs. Washington and other famous persons.
Love your tale about your grandmother and especially about finding out that your many greats grandfather was at Valley forge.
My great great grandmother was a teen when the BLIZZARD of 1888 hit NYC. My grandson loves to read history books about disasters and had just read about that blizzard, so he was VERY impressed. :-)
It's great to share these stories with our grands!
One of mine too. Both signed the Bradford Accord The other served at fort Pitt. I have a picture of their grandson He was my grandmothers grandfather
