What is it about the Duluth-Two Harbors expressway?
In February it was a Nissan Sentra doing 137 mph. And on Friday night a jet-black 2016 Chevrolet Camaro 1SS was clocked at 171 mph on that stretch of Minnesota Highway 61.
Hermantown Police Department Deputy Chief Shawn Padden was on loan as part of a Minnesota State Patrol "Toward Zero Deaths" DWI saturation effort Friday night when the radar in his Dodge Charger squad car started screaming

Dollar for dollar the GTR is a cheap ...at 190+...
I was pinched there many years ago doing over 80 in what was then a 55 zone. The highway is curvy, goes through tunnels and has excellent scenery. Furthermore, it is away from the cities and being rural invites opening up the carburator. Smokies know this and haunt it like ghosts.
Oh, yeah. A new STI will do that very nicely. The only speeding ticket I’ve gotten in the past thirty years was in a WRX. For 75 mph. The trooper was laughing his butt off as he wrote it out and I could have kissed him.
No, he was in the Air Force at the time.
Javelin - those were the days! I remember renting one on a trip to California in the early 70s. It was white and plain as the day was long, except for the friggin 360 that somehow made its way into a RENTAL car.
We had an absolute blast for three days in that car. Only problem is that half the electrics didn’t work half the time. Riding at night and suddenly all the dash controls would just . . . go out!
But it would give a K-marro a run for its money any day.
Serves you right for riding with a politician.
Ford’s done really well in recent years. I’m on my third Navigator, a 2010 bought in 11/09. Right now it has a little over 102,000 miles on it. The electronic air suspension failed a little after 50,000 miles and Ford repaired it at no charge. That’s it for major troubles, and what it ought to be, given the price.
“Hello, the Japs make much better cars.”
That used to be true, not so much anymore.
I got stopped doing, supposedly, 128 in a 92 Purple Camaro with T-Tops. That was one fast machine. That 350 would wind out like nothing I ever owned before or since.

Camaro is available now with a 6.2 liter V-8, the same engine they put in the Corvette.
I bought a new Camaro Z-28, in ‘97 I had it up past 140 and then chickened out, it felt like the front end was going to go air borne any time.
If I had the money to waste now, I’d buy a Dodge Viper, 645 H.P., 8.4 liter, V-10
With max speed limit at 80 mph why would a car be designed to go over 100?
But for that money, it had better be. It was made to run balls to the wall on the Autobahn.
No problem!
Yes, that beemer is a very nice car. That Fury had oar storage, it was a boat.
Because I want one?
Mechanic: [excitedly] She sucks nitro... with Phase 4 heads! 600 horsepower through the wheels! She's meanness set to music and the bitch is born to run!
OK, someone has to buy Fiat 500’s and Smart Cars.
Ours was an 86 transam and we bought it new. We had all kinds of problems, serious life threatening problems, and we finally limped it into Chrysler dealership to trade it in after the 12K mile warranty had expired and GM given us the middle finger.
We tried to work with the dealership but with the warranty expired, so we were SOL. We could have probably sued the dealership and GM and after thousands of dollars in legal fees and months of life altering stress, they might have extended the warranty and tried to repair the car. It wasn’t worth it.
Bottom line: It was clear that GM management/engineering were in a cost cutting frenzy and quality being a casualty.
It was a Stock C-7 Corvette, 460 HP. I had a 2014 C-7 Z51.
I heard the one in Texas had Nitrous, not sure.
Advertised Top Speed for the C-7 Corvette is 185.
I think the Supercharged Z06 tops out about 205, but there’s advertised and reality. Of course, none of us own a Runway.
BTW -My Corvette got 38 MPG in Eco Mode coming back home for Vegas doing about 75 MPH. Great Car.
