While the tactics of chief Donald Trump rival Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX)97% to win delegates without voters come under intense scrutiny, a quiet, thus-far-little-focused-on development has occurred that could provide a ray of hope for the Trump team fighting political insiders on their home turf. Paul Manafort, Trumps new Republican National Convention manager, just delivered not only a big win in Michigans delegate game: He undercut Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) by throwing a separate victory to Ohio Gov. John Kasich. CNN reported on Saturday evening: Ted Cruz suffered a rare convention loss Saturday after delegates backing John Kasich and Donald Trump boxed him out of key positions in the Michigan delegation. The Texas senators campaign ran eight delegates for eight committee spots and lost every one, alleging it was double-crossed by Kasich supporters. The Michigan delegation picked one Trump supporter, Matt Hall, and one Kasich supporter, Judi Schwalbach, for the two seats on the powerful rules committee. The Cruz campaign lost votes for both seats. CNNs Tom LoBianco added in his report that this loss is a major defeat for Cruzand win for Trumpbecause seats on the conventions rules committed are highly coveted prizes for their role in shaping a contested convention in Cleveland.

He brought in an exert in insider politics to battle someone who is using insider politics to steal delegate spots.
And I do say steal, because if the people of a district voted for Trump, then the delegate should be a Trump support to represent them.
If Cruz comes in and replaces that person with one of his own people, then it makes sense Trump has to fight fire with fire, only to keep what he rightfully won in the first place.

Cruz has awoken a sleeping giant in Trump.
Until now Trump was competing in a standard way.
With these Cruz dirty tricks, Cruz has given Trump permission to do a scorched earth strategy. Since Cruz is now on record of employing any and all means to win Trump will employ any and all means times 10.
Cruz has no idea what he has unleashed on himself. Trump is now on a mission to vaporize Cruz.
“The value of this election cycle, perhaps above all others, is that it has exposed the cesspool that is party politics, in both sides.”
Agreed! And my add-on is, that Donald Trump, by himself, has been the forcing function for this expose. Without Trump, Cruz would be gone and we would be awaiting the Jebbito Boosh Coronaton in Cleveland. Plus, NONE of the substantive issues would have been raised and we would either be on deck for Clinton !! or Boosh II. Boosh and Cruz are both globalists, and that’s where I part company with both of them, plus Boosh is not a bright person, Neither of them is receipe for moving the country back to where it needs to be.
a LoTR analogy. how creepy. which one is frodo?
If Cruz starts whining, it means Trump is kicking his @ss!<<
So when Trump was whining...
DK
It appears he had to to prevent having his delegates stolen.
Their attitude is not much different from Bernie and Marxist libs in general who complain about "equality."
That includes both candidates at this point as well.
Agreed, and have expressed the same opinion several times also. It's actually a form of derision but apparently they either don't care, haven't figured that out yet, or can't spell "advocate" or "supporter."
“He called Gerald Ford a Gestapo?”
I guess that he worked for Reagan in 1980, when Reagan won a clear majority (not plurality) of delegates. Presumably he did not employ KGB tactics then (unlike his Russophile Ukrainian client).
Where did you read that word? It doesn't appear in the article. Did Ted Cruz tell you to say that?
“Trump wasnt doing back room deals until he had to keep delegates he had already won.”
Until he announced last June, Trump only had to deal with union thugs, corrupt businessmen, and the worst of the world’s leadership. Little did he realize that they’d be a day at the beach compared to the corruption of the U.S. Republican Party. Quite an eye-opening experience, I’d guess.
“Trumpstes can now stop accusing Cruz of being a tool for the establishment”
No; Cruz always will be a tool.
>>Cruz fights like a liberal...
>>he uses Obama tactics and Alinski reasoning and dirty tricks..
Good! Alinsky tactics WORK and they work reliably. Trump and Cruz both use them, but each uses a different subset of the full set of tactics. They both need to learn to employ the full set before one of them faces Hillary.
This is a bar fight. There is no such thing as fighting “too dirty”. America’s fate hangs in the balance.
“Cruz sickens me....there is something repulsive about him.”
You are being too kind. Only one (some thing) repulses you? My list is quite long. I can’t listen to him, either, as my gag threshold is low.
“Without Trump, Cruz would be gone and we would be awaiting the Jebbito Boosh Coronaton in Cleveland.”
A Jebbito Boosh coronation still is not out of the question. (1) He only “suspended” his campaign. (2) He said he may not get the primary votes, but he would be the party’s nominee. (3) The GOPe like/want him. (4) A contested convention opens up all kinds of possibilities.
exactly, so true, but then again he is just another ivy league lawyer who can’t finish his first term, bit like someone in power right now.
“The Texas senators campaign ran eight delegates for eight committee spots and lost every one, alleging it was double-crossed by Kasich supporters.”
Had Cruz been the winner and Trump the loser, the Cruz supporters here would have asserted that Trump is whining and that this is proof of Ted’s genius.
‘Cruz fights like a liberal...
he uses Obama tactics and Alinski reasoning and dirty tricks..’
Absolutely. Cruz admits he is using the Obama’s sleazy methods; Ted bought a bulk consignment of The Audacity to Win and distributed copies to all his staffers. He said that was the model on which he was basing his campaign.
‘Its a sad commentary that voters votes dont matter as much as back room politics, which I see a few around here at FR are all dismissive about it because its their man whos doing it.’
Agree. Jeff Roe would have to cheat his way to victory in the general, in the uunlikely event he gets that far. Backroom deals are not the way to generate voter enthusiasm.
‘It seems more like back room politics to require resources being used to defend them.’
Because conservatives have always preferred backroom deals to the will of the people.
