Probably you’d want something better than the SAT or ACT, more like British A-Levels or the U. Tokyo entrance exam. I was rather hoping each university would design its own entrance exam, maybe its own entrance exam for each degree program, but your suggestion would be a start.
The SAT have a lock on testing in US and they are not going to let it go. Of course having only a small minority of students take the test is going to bite them
Right now in many districts all the freshman sophmores and juniors take the test, yes three times!

Wow. Like many here, I closely followed the rise of Hugo Chavez in Venezuela. The people of Venezuela, mostly the poor, held the same view as that cashier. And Chavez promised loads of free stuff from all the people he told them were ripping them off. The people elected Chavez in great numbers. When things started going bad the people people reelected Chavez.
I find it frightening that this same mindset is propelling Comrade Bernie.
