Rule number One for the Party is that the Party determines where in the pecking order individual members stand. Ted has been running for President since the day he won his seat in the Senate and that doesn't sit well with the Party.
Therefore, while the Party is pretty sure they can neutralize Trump even if he's elected President, they're positive that they have to smack Snake Ted down hard to keep every uppity freshman Senator from using their Party without playing by their Party rules.
At some point, the Party will demand Cruz publicly kiss McConnells butt. Rush and the Cruzbots will call that, "the Party uniting behind Cruz". The reality is that it will be Cruz acknowledging who owns him.

The Democrat prosecutor in Florida who is analyzing the Michelle Fields case and deciding whether to move forward against Lewandowski, has often appeared on NewsmaxTV.
Ironically, in a previous appearance last year, he laughed out loud about Cruz EVER BEING THE NOMINEE from the GOP. He said something to the effect that “it will never happen because they can’t stand him..” (my wording).
So even the lefties are surprised — and have to be loving the idea of Cruz going against HRC.
