You do need proof of citizenship for a lot of things. I don't think people can use their mothers birth certificate as proof of their citizenship. If that were the case why did Obama have to produce a birth certificate at all?
I'm not 100% convinced that Cruz was ever officially became a US citizen. Really....did he use his mother's birth certificate to apply for a passport?
