It does make a difference to them. The GOP needs to lose to preserve the present balance of power that keeps funneling our nation’s wealth to the top 10%. If a Republican became president, then the middle class might demand meaningful jobs instead of free stuff. A Democrat president’s job is to lead the people to the trough and give them some free stuff so they people stop thinking in terms of “I need to work to pay my own way”.
Progressivism is 20th century Socialism for the masses and Crony Capitalism for the top 10%. It is the system where your boss will give you a free coffee mug as a reward for the “most profitable year in the history of the company” and then tell you that a 1% raise is out of the question.
