Trump is a wild card in my opinion. No one knows what he would do if elected. There is a lot of hyperbole in political campaigns. NRA says Trump came out with a position paper sept 2015 voicing full support of gun rights.

If Cruz simply said that, I wouldn't have a problem. Comparing his current and past positions is perfectly fair. Deliberately lying about what his current positions are is slimy.
