When a political party picks one candidate over another, the party signals to the broader electorate what it represents. If the Republican Party nominates Ted Cruz instead of Donald Trump, it will represent one of the greatest practical and moral victories in the Republican Partys noble history.
Cruzs enormous victory in Wisconsin this week makes it more probable than not that Donald Trump falls short of the required 1,237 delegates 50 percent plus one of the 2,472 total delegates to the convention to cinch the nomination on the first ballot. Combined with savvy delegate recruitment and a mounting string of endorsements, Cruz is setting himself up as the most likely nominee in a contested convention.
While many Trump supporters might decry this outcome under the stated rules of the party as the establishment countermanding the voters, this broad theme oversimplifies. Both Trump and Cruz exist outside the establishment." The more interesting question is what statement the GOP makes by picking the particular candidate Cruz over the particular candidate Trump.
If Cruz wrests the nomination from Trump with a renewed message of unity and opportunity, the party as a whole should rejoice and celebrate. Indeed, there are four reasons the party should be dancing inside at the prospect, because Cruz defeating Trump represents:

Interesting that you say Cruz should win on his own merits and not because of hatred against Trump.
Who was it who said “Nobody likes him, he’s unlikable”?
If Cruz is now more likeable than trump it is an achievement.
Yes, of course. The rules have always said you have to have a majority of to win. If Trump can't figure out how to get a majority, and someone else can get a majority to coalesce behind them, then Trump deserves to lose.
Yeah, but here's the kicker - that person won't be Ted Cruz.
“Six months ago did you think Ted A Time For Truth Cruz would be in bed frantically fornicating with the entire elitist republican establishment?”
Six months ago, did you ever think a country full of freepers would ignore the fact that a Republican presidential candidate fornicated with the Democratic establishment for 40 years and still vote for him?
Hello??? It's because crony capitalism is a huge, huge problem in this country. Any conservative worth his weight understands this, SMH. The Globalists have plundered this country if you haven't been paying attention.
If you will go to www.opensecrets.org and research for yourself, you would see Goldman-Sachs is a major donor for Cruz. Then go to the 2008 presidential election and you'll see Goldman-Sachs was a major donor for Barrack 0bama.
IT'S ALL CORRUPT!!! That's why we need a TRUE OUTSIDER like Donald Trump so we even have a chance at tearing down the GOP establishment and then the long task of fighting all the other corruption. Cruz is now part of the establishment, period, and a Cruz presidency will only mean the Uniparty survives and the continued plunder of our country. WAKE UP!

So your OK if they bypass Ted and put in Kasich, correct?
Is one of the reasons a President Hillary ?
So...
Cruz people are saying they will stay home if their guy is not the nominee.
Trump people are saying they will stay home if their guy is not the nominee.
Since they both cannot be the nominee, we are almost assured a second President Clinton or, God forbid, a President Sanders.
Great. Just great.
Too deep into the beer already Diigenesis?
I know you know Cruz wasn’t in office when Obamacare was made law. If I didn’t think you knew that I’d be pretty harsh.
At first I thought it was a Cruz supporter being sarcastic or trying to make trump fans look like uneducated morons.
Sadly you can’t edit it to fix your error.
You might ask a mod to delete it.
So pessimistic.
Don’t let your heart be troubled.
Ted will effect real, authentic, CONSERVATIVE change.
“Although I do find it interesting that the Trump supporters do appear to go out of their way to be nasty on this board towards Cruz for seemingly no reason other than to be... nasty.”
If you are looking for factual, reality based sanity or civil discourse from Trumpets you have come to the wrong forum. FR has degenerated into childish, vile, and lunacy based name calling.
I hope once this primary season is over we will be able to get back to something approaching civility. I have been a poster on F since 1998, and a lurker before that from nearly the beginning, and I have never seen it this bad.
Principle Defeating Personality
The Fresh Defeating the Stale
Discipline Defeating Shooting-From-the-Hip
My heart goes out to the lady on the other thread who called Ted a breath of fresh air. I've been hearing about him since the last presidential election, and he's anything but fresh or new or interesting or original by this point. He's a hard candidate to be enthusiastic about.
I'll grant that he's more principled than Donald Trump and probably shoots less from the hip than Trump, but consider who you're comparing him to. Cruz has said stupid things off the top of his head because he thinks that's what his audience wants to hear: New York values, carpet bombing, the world is on fire, etc. etc. He's an educated and intelligent guy, but nowhere near as thoughtful as Gaiser thinks.
The behavior you observed is far from one-sided.
If Trump reaches 1237 delegates, he will have won the nomination fair and square and there will be no "stealing".
However, what if he doesn't reach the 1237 threshold and the convention is then contested? What if, on a subsequent ballot, Cruz reaches 1237 delegates and wins the nomination fair and square?
What then?
“Since they both cannot be the nominee, we are almost assured a second President Clinton or, God forbid, a President Sanders.
Great. Just great.”
Don’t worry too much. Emotions are running high right now. By election time, folks will have calmed down and will act rationally - except for the craziest ones. There seems to be quite a concentration of those here on FR lately...
It’s also possible (though I think unlikely) that they will end up running mates, which would help a lot.
Agreed!

The Trumpets have lost their way. Conservative values are no longer important to them.
No surprise they’ve degenerated into tearing down the only true conservative in the race.
I believe with all my heart that Cruz has been a plant since day one. He said all the right things and conservatives were all giddy at the mention of his name.
And to hedge their bets the gopE put Rubio out there for conservatives to get giddy about. He went down early so they shifted all their resources to Cruz. I believe they’d be doing this if Trump had never announced.
Like I said, fool me once (McCain), fool me twice (Romney) fool me thrice (Cruz). How many times do they get away with this before we stop being so gullible?
Dont let your heart be troubled.
Ted will effect real, authentic, CONSERVATIVE change.
Ted Cruz will EXACTLY what his money backers TELL him to do! He will do it WITHOUT my vote.
