Four Reasons Republicans Should Rejoice at Cruz Beating Trump
PJ Media ^ | April 8, 2016 | T. Elliot Gaiser

When a political party picks one candidate over another, the party signals to the broader electorate what it represents. If the Republican Party nominates Ted Cruz instead of Donald Trump, it will represent one of the greatest practical and moral victories in the Republican Party’s noble history.

Cruz’s enormous victory in Wisconsin this week makes it more probable than not that Donald Trump falls short of the required 1,237 delegates – 50 percent plus one of the 2,472 total delegates to the convention – to cinch the nomination on the first ballot. Combined with savvy delegate recruitment and a mounting string of endorsements, Cruz is setting himself up as the most likely nominee in a contested convention.

While many Trump supporters might decry this outcome under the stated rules of the party as the “establishment” countermanding the voters, this broad theme oversimplifies. Both Trump and Cruz exist outside the “establishment." The more interesting question is what statement the GOP makes by picking the particular candidate Cruz over the particular candidate Trump.

If Cruz wrests the nomination from Trump with a renewed message of unity and opportunity, the party as a whole should rejoice and celebrate. Indeed, there are four reasons the party should be dancing inside at the prospect, because Cruz defeating Trump represents:

If people think if Trump falls short that they will give it to Cruz, they are smoking crack

“Cruz’s enormous victory in Wisconsin this week makes it more probable than not that Donald Trump falls short of the required 1,237 delegates....”

Stopped reading right there. What a bunch if hooey!

If anything, Cruz needs to get out of the race. There is no way he's going to win. Trump Delegate Count:

752 + 95 (New York) = 847
847 + 100 (Connecticut, Maryland, Delaware, Pa., RI) = 947
947 + 10 (Indiana) = 957
957 + 36 (Nebraska) = 993
993 + 34 (West Virginia) = 1027
1027 + 10 (Oregon) = 1037
1037 + 13 (Washington) = 1050
1050 + 100 (California) = 1150
1150 + 51 (New Jersey) = 1201
1201 + 10 (New Mexico) = 1211
1211 + 29 (South Dakota) = 1240

Try to do that with Cruz. Cruz is a Uniparty/GOPe/Bush Family Puppet. At best Cruz owes the UniPary/GOPe/Bush Family big time.

[full disclosure - Cruz supporter]

Before Iowa, I predicted 1,300 ish delegates for Trump. While there has been a little bit of play in the numbers from the primary results, it is not enough (yet) for me to come off of that prediction. I am thinking that NY results might cause me to shrink that number a little bit but only if Trump does not do well in NY .... but that seems unlikely.

“More probable than not.. Trump will reach 1237.. Sorry to break that to people..”

Bless your heart.

That’s not going to happen.

Once upon a time the republicans wanted what was best for America.

No, I don’t remember that time, I’m only 63.

DT is the only shot we’ll have in our lifetimes of a president not owned by Wall St bankers and one more Wall-St-owned president would finish this country. End of story, you don’t need to know anything else. I can’t believe all this crap about Cruz being a conservative and a Christian, I mean there’s absolutely nothing in the Bible about Jesus ever being married to an officer of a Wall St. investment bank...

“If Trump wins the 1237 and the GOP steals it for Cruz, the GOP can kiss it’s “unity” goodbye.”

Don’t worry. Be happy.

Trump isn’t going to win 1237, so nothing to worry about.

"Why do people keep insisting that Ted Cruz is outside of the “establishment”? He clearly is not as his campaign has progressed and has joined in with them and added establishment personnel to his roster as well as the Wall St. cronies that are supporting him."

Because some people have an attention span longer than since Trump decided to beat Cruz by lying about him.

The establishment didn't support Cruz until he was the last man standing besides Trump. He's not their choice. I suppose you think Cruz should tell them to get lost, but that's silly. Why shouldn't he accept all the support he can get? He's not changing his positions for it.

I find it strange that "Wall St" is such a boogie man around here anyway. What is this, a Sanders forum?

Sen Cruz was born a US citizen. To say that he is an illegal alien is nothing short of a lie. See USC Title 8 section 1401 subsection G - Nationals and Citizens of the United States at birth

We may disagree as to how to interpret and what qualifies as NBC, but please stop with the flat out lies.

So...this guy’s happy that the GOP would signal to the electorate that it represents banksterism, globalism, trade treason, and cuckservatism?

Cruz KNEW ObamaCARE was SECRET but decided to
screw his supporters by voting to allow the vote.
Why?
He was married to his globalist-entitled (like Hillary)
wife, pwned by Goldman Sachs, and busy enticing
hookers into playing “rat” and “judge”.
Then he was caught bribing Fiorina who played his
“wife” in front of cameras.

America is disgusTED.

Trump isn’t going to win 1237, so nothing to worry about.

Then I guess the country wasn't interested in real change afterall. Everything stays the same or , more probably, gets worse.
