The only path thus becomes subverting the will of the Republican primary and caucus voters.

If Trump does not get to 1237 before the convention, that means the nominee will be decided at the convention. And besides Cruz’s delegates, there will be hundreds of other non-Trump delegates at the convention. Those delegates will need to go somewhere. If they go to Cruz, that is not “subverting” anything. That is how a convention works.
