I heard a talk show host say that the Republican establishment hates Trump because he is threatening to take away their base, and they fear losing control of the base than losing yet another election to a Democrat.

The GOPe hates it’s base and is embarrassed by it.
The GOPe clearly prefers Hillary over Cruz or Trump.
Trump is a LIBERAL! He gave money to Hillary and said she would make a great President.
He called for longer waiting periods on gun purchaes and a ban on “assault weapons”.
He supported PARTIAL BIRTH ABORTION.
He endorsed Bill De Blasio.
He called for government run, single payer healthcare THIS YEAR.
I was their base for 42 years...I changed my registration and am out of the party forever. Never again will I cast any vote for any Republican, I’ve been lied to by politicians enough for one lifetime.
They may be about the same height, but that’s where it ends for the Trump versus Reagan comparison.

The establishment “hates” Trump? The establishment , and the public, think he would be for their interest as business as usual, but not as POTUS. Trump could not be gracious tonight, can’t find it in his DNA.

Just about everyone hates Trump, except for a narrow band. Trump is a nasty guy, and a liar. Voters are seeing that.

Your “narrow” Trump band will be roughly 45% of all primary of primary votes cast. Contrast that to 13% in OH and 17% in FL for Cruz. No contest.
They’ve hated Trump ever since he singlehandedly re-opened the discussion on illegal immigration; our Republocrat overlords had already decided that was a closed issue.
They hate Trump for the same reason the love Cruz. Trump will destroy them and give the Republican party back to the people in the stands and Cruz is a willing tool to help them keep their power. There is no mystery here.
And btw calling someone a liar doesn't make an argument.
