Here’s what I saw on the DNS thread, last night....
DNS settings
(FR not working)
Visit https://www.opendns.com
Change your DNS Settings to
208.67.222.222
and
208.67.220.220
On a Mac (I’m not a PC guy)
- Pull down the Apple icon, upper right
- Choose System Preferences
- Choose Network
- Choose Advanced
- Choose DNS tab
- Below the DNS Servers window, click the plus sign
- Enter 208.67.222.222
- press return
- Enter 208.67.220.220
- Click ok
- Click Apply
FR should be working
Or....
replacing < www.freerepublic.com > in the URL with the IP number:
< 209.157.64.200>
Jane, is Jim aware of the problem?
The other day when I got bumped off and tries to sign back in the message was “welcome back anonymous lurker”. I thought it was odd but was able to get back on so didn’t bother Jim with it
Does not work using that info on TW in Raleigh. I can only access from Verizon and I am running out of data.

The path under windows:
%SystemRoot%\System32\drivers\etc\hosts
Open up with “hosts” file with notepad.
And add this line.
“209.157.64.200 www.freerepublic.com”
You may have to change the permissions to the “hosts” file under “Users” for the file to accept or save the addition.
Click on properties and the tab “security” and highlight the “Users” line.
Check mark the boxes “full control” which should also automatically check the boxes for “modify” and “write”.
click “apply” or “OK” for dialog box.
You are done and back on FR. :)"
I was locked out ALL day yesterday!!! NOT HAPPY!!! Doughty One’s caucus thread popped up on search page and I clicked on it it got me onto the site, once here I saw everyone having same problems!!! Followed their instruction and they got me up and running again!!! We have some very smart folks here!! My phone is still locked out I will deal with it later!!! I am worried ALOT of us won’t know how to get here at all!! This is an FR problem to many carriers unable to bring up FR!!!
