I have been saying exactly this for years.
The US government owns nearly 50% of the land west of the Mississippi.
Most of that, except the national parks should be sold and used to pay off the national debt.
wow I’m really surprised at some of these comments...
conservatives for years have complained about the federal government holding so much land especially in the western states
What did we just have that standoff on the Bundy Ranch or in Oregon about the federal government owning all this land?...( of course this would make sense for the Cruz-Beck team...Beck snaked Bundy bushwhack interview during that standoff in Nevada... good old Beck backed up Harry Reid)
and then Trump says will sell it back to the public and you guys are whining about it??????? Good God!!
Stop pouring billions into countries who hate us
Only one problem, the congress will never let him fix the deficit.
I like it!
I like the sounds of that just on it’s face. ping for later reading.
If you’re going to sell land, make sure EPA, BLM and others don’t have any control of it.
Brilliant reset.
Put me down to buy Mt Rushmore. I always wanted to carve my mug in granite!!!
"Oh, my goodness," he said. "Do you know how much land we have? You know how much oil is off shore? And in government lands? Easily."
And WHO would we be selling it off to? Foreigner's?
Trump is at Greta’s town-hall now telling us the ‘rich’ are probably going to have to pay more in his tax plan.
This shows he understand there’s a problem but not the root of the problem, the progressive tax policy.
I like this idea. Specify that public lands must only be sold to US citizens for a generation, and I’m on board a hundred percent.
What's wrong with that?
"We can get rid of government buildings we're not using
Especially if we tell the worthless, do-nothing political hack bureaucRATs...."YOU'RE FIRED!"
we can extract the energy from government lands, we can do all kinds of things to extract value from the assets that we hold.
What's wrong with that?
Trump said he would get rid of the $19 trillion national debt "over a period of eight years."
What's wrong with that?
...economists would consider Trump's proposal impossible
That means it's possible
...it could require slashing the annual federal budget by more than half
What's wrong with that?
That’s crazy talk. He needs to eliminate half the government agencies and quit subsidizing slothfulness and immorality.
Well, considering how many billions he’s made, I’d give his ideas about how to reduce our debt load a lot of credence.
However, I’d also be in favor of the Fair Tax plan and slashing the Dept of Education, obamacare, welfare and other black holes for money and return control of our lives back to either us or at the very most, the states where they belong.
Yeah, sell it to who though? China? Saudi Arabia?
I really like it as a concept. Especially resources, or drilling and mining rights. Of course you could lease out naming rights too. There are a bunch of ways to create revenue without actually selling stuff, so long as we don’t sell stuff we need or don’t fulfill Fight Club prophecies.
As others pointed out here, why can’t we renegotiate our debt with the Fed and others? Don’t we have leverage? Current deals and future deals that debt relief could be part of? The entire world has a vested interest in the continued solvency of the US. If we default, the world defaults.
Regardless, I’m glad to hear something other than “cut spending and grow the economy” added to the mix.
Sell our national resources to foreigners?
Not on the headline topic of selling assets, but I hate the way they drop in these “expert opinions:
[The article noted that most economists would consider Trump’s proposal impossible, as it could require slashing the annual federal budget by more than half.
Glenn Kessler, who writes the Post’s Fact Checker column, deemed the plan “nonsensical” and gave it “Four Pinocchios.” Kessler assessed that even if Trump were to eliminate every government function and shut down every Cabinet agency, he would still be short $16 trillion.
“We regret we have only Four Pinocchios to give for this whopper,” Kessler said. “Trump is insulting the intelligence of Americans for making such a claim in the first place.” ]
This seems to say that eliminating “every government function” for EIGHT YEARS would only save $3T, or less than $400B/yr. I guess simple math is not a skill owned by this “fact checker”. He is only off by a factor of TEN, after all, since eliminating ALL government functions would be be $32T over 8 years.
Wow.That’s idiotic
