Gardaí arrested one person after scuffles broke out between protesters and the Public Order Unit outside Dublins Glasnevin Cemetery.
Efforts were made to burn a Union Jack and bangers were exploded, one of which was thrown at lines of gardaí and led to the brief altercation. [
]
A group of about 100 people, mostly men, gathered to protest at the unveiling ceremony in the cemetery of a Remembrance Wall listing the names of all those who died in the 1916 Easter Rising, including British soldiers.
Many of those present carried banners and placards bearing the logo of the 32 County Sovereignty Movement.
One of them read: British soldiers with our patriot dead? Not in my name.

These are bangers. And mash. I looked it up.
Well, I'd hate to take a sausage upside the head...

they threw bangers at the gateau. Dear god. I dont know what that means, Assuming they were not pork sausages accompanied with mashed potatoes....they would be fireworks left over from Guy Fawkes day on last November 5th.

Don’t they eat bangers and mash over there? :=)
My guess would be that they’re referring to firecrackers.

Well, I bet many Americans would find it strange for us to list British dead alongside the names of American patriots on a U.S. Revolutionary War monument.

What happens when a country prosecutes those who defend its flag from being burned by a mob?

Theyre actually firecrackers. Something like an M80, I would guess.
The gardaí are the police. The name comes from Garda Síochána,, which translates to guardians of the peace.

These are Irish people in Ireland burning a British flag; I’d imagine Americans are allowed to burn a British flag is they felt like it.

Good point; I don’t think we do list the British with ours.

I don’t know what they are commemorating. Ireland gave up its independence 44 years ago after all.

Well, I bet many Americans would find it strange for us to list British dead alongside the names of American patriots on a U.S. Revolutionary War monument. And still you have Union and Confederate Reenactors who are great friends as are their organizations (SCV and SUVCW). There are some lessons to be learned from understanding history, but still accentuating the best of our common interests and values.
Kind of like a lot of what is going on at FR, right now.

I know all about 1916; it was a communistic uprising, lauded by people like Lenin. And as I mentioned in the second sentence, the Irish gave it all up in 1972 when they approved the countrys Third Amendment.
The State may become a member of the European Coal and Steel Community (established by Treaty signed at Paris on the 18th day of April, 1951), the European Economic Community (established by Treaty signed at Rome on the 25th day of March, 1957) and the European Atomic Energy Community (established by Treaty signed at Rome on the 25th day of March, 1957). No provision of this Constitution invalidates laws enacted, acts done or measures adopted by the State necessitated by the obligations of membership of the Communities or prevents laws enacted, acts done or measures adopted by the Communities, or institutions thereof, from having the force of law in the State.
The Republic of Ireland existed as actually independent for a mere 24 years.

Why would they throw sausages at a cake? I thought that they only left them out in the rain at Macarthur Park.
