Like I said before, he’s not wrong - he just answered badly and gave the left a howitzer and a truck full of shells to attack him with. Not a smart way to handle things.
It also exposed the fact that he’s never really thought about it before.
Trump fans won’t care, honest Cruz supporters know he’s following a logical path. However the goal has to be overturning Roe v. Wade and returning the right to the states. Not new federal laws to prosecute offenders.
Trump’s initial answer was absolutely correct in terms of equal application of the law. He screwed up when he backtracked and claimed woman would not be held accountable under the scenario of abortion being illegal. By doing so he created a ‘protected class’ of citizens, a flawed and unjust policy. BTW, Cruz and that ‘other fellow’ showed their hands when they criticized Trump for his original answer by demonstrating that they too are in favor of that flawed ‘protected class’ concept.
“However the goal has to be overturning Roe v. Wade and returning the right to the states.”
Supreme Court justices will overturn Roe, or not.
Presidential rhetoric and politics will not amount to a hill of beans.
Presidents and candidates can debate and rant and tweet ad nauseum. It is all meaningless.
Trump is NOT a practiced politician. And it shows.
But he is a seasoned businessman, a doer and not a talker, and most of all people who know him like him. That is opposite of Ted Rafael Cruz.
Not necessary. All that has to be done is to pass a law removing the jurisdiction of the federal courts over state laws regarding abortion. This can be done with Republican control of Congress and the presidency. There is no need for it to be overturned in the Supreme Court.
By the way, this same tactic can be used to remove the jurisdiction of the federal courts over state laws regarding marriage.
